After 2 exciting years chairing the 🛡 #ASPIS cluster we pass the torch 🔥 to ONTOX, and into the capable hands of Mathieu Vinken and his excellent consortium. We are looking forward to all that is to come in the next two years and continue together with our partners from RISK-HUNT3R our journey towards next generation risk assessment!
🎉Today marks a special day for the #ASPIScluster! As the intense third edition of the ASPIS cluster Open Symposium draws close, a 🌟new chapter begins. 💪The leadership of the ASPIS chairmanship is ➡️passing from John Colbourne, coordinator of PrecisionTox (University of Birmingham), to Mathieu Vinken, the ONTOX coordinator (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). 🛡️Since its inception, the ASPIS chairmanship has been held by RISK-HUNT3R from 2021 to 2022, followed by PrecisionTox from 2023 to 2024. 👏Now, it is ONTOX's turn to lead. 📅Over the next two years, the #ONTOX project will guide the cluster's mission to advance ✅sustainable, ❌🐇animal-free, and 🧱reliable chemical risk assessment for a safer tomorrow. We are ✨thrilled to embark on this challenging journey and are 🤝committed to driving ASPIS's efforts 🚀forward with determination and vision! #H2020 #PrecisionTox #RISKHUNT3R

💡 Today we’re shining a spotlight on Ralf Weber from the University of Birmingham (UK), the chair of the project’s “molecular data production technology hub”. The goal of WP3 is to uncover molecular key event biomarkers that predict adverse health outcomes. With extensive experience and ongoing efforts from all members of this Work Package, including Phenome Centre Birmingham and MGI , we have established a new benchmark in large-scale multi-omics toxicology. We have developed and are applying, high-throughput, and cost-efficient workflows for multi-omics sample preparation, transcriptomics, and metabolomics to thousands of samples from non-sentient organisms exposed to a wide range of chemicals. #toxicology #biomarkers #omics #precisionmedicine

Great example of cross-sectional collaboration to address regulatory challenges! Scientists from academia, industry and regulatory agencies present their work on metabolomics data to improve the grouping read-across process for the safety assessment of chemicals. Make sure to read up on the study of the MATCHING consortium and how it can be useful to advance chemical regulation and help reduce the numbers of animal tests in the process.
🚨 Exciting news in advancing non-animal chemical safety assessment! 🚨 CERJ PI Professor Mark Viant leads MATCHING, a pioneering consortium using metabolomics grouping and read-across to assess the safety of chemicals. This innovative approach could reduce animal usage in regulatory assessment, making the process more ethical and efficient. 💡 Why is this important? - More reliable results: Grouping chemicals based on biological responses, not just structural similarities. - Improved reproducibility: Confidence in results, and evidence for metabolomics for regulatory usage. - Ethical advancements: Grouping approach supports reducing the reliance on animal testing Read more about this groundbreaking research here: https://lnkd.in/dEvUensj With thanks to Cefic-LRI Long-Range Research Initiative for funding the consortium.

🔆 The PrecisionTox Summer Newsletter is released 🔆 We are excited to highlight the editorial written by our Stakeholder Advisory Group member Brian R. Berridge, who shared his insights on Biological Questions-Based Approaches, a framework for chemical safety assessment, based on key biological contributors to the likelihood that a chemical would be hazardous. In the editorial Brian details how PrecisionTox is a great example of a defined approach that addresses many of the fundamental “questions” represented in the BQBA framework. See the complete text in here https://lnkd.in/ew62AnFj In this edition of the newsletter you can also read up on the recent achievements of the PrecisionTox early-stage researchers, upcoming events such as the #ASPIS Open Symposium and recent events such as our Annual Consortium Meeting in Brussels and the consortium’s participation in the Multi-stakeholder Roundtable on the Commission roadmap towards phasing out animal testing for chemical safety assessments, organised by the Eurogroup for Animals. Thanks to the whole consortium and our stakeholders for a productive and insightful first half of 2024, we wish everyone a great summer break!
