How is science leadership going so far in your school this term? Primary Science Quality Mark hub leaders are busy getting ready to welcome science subject leaders to the Autumn round of the new, revised PSQM programme next week, and I’m very much looking forward to welcoming so many science leads both to my PSQM hub at Wimbledon High School GDST and to the PSQM hubs in the East Midlands. The new PSQM materials look incredibly useful, and I’m sure the science leads will look forward to auditing, implementing, reviewing and reflecting as they develop science in their school with the help of their PSQM mentor. It’s a great time to be focusing on science, but it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming to know where to start… I wonder which areas of support teachers at your school need help with? The Association for Science Education membership might be something to consider as a wealth of resources and courses are available to members. The Primary Science Teaching Trust has also just opened their Primary Science Leader webinar registration – perhaps that is something your teachers might benefit from to increase their knowledge and confidence? Or maybe Explorify UK might be useful? Alongside all the amazing activities, they have great new teacher support resources for tackling the way children develop their long-term memory in the Materials topics, including new glossaries that don’t just point out the key vocabulary, but also tell you what the words mean! I wonder what sorts of activities your pupils are interested in? The The Royal Society's Young People’s Book Prize 2024 is now open for schools to apply to be judging panels - an activity very popular with many pupils which also gives you free copies of 6 amazing science books! The Great Science Share for Schools is on 17th June 2025 and their website has some amazing ideas for getting pupils to think about questions they would like to find out the answers to as well as other fabulous resources such as the Skills Starter videos.
