The chill in the air is a definite reminder that we are heading toward the end of the year and our thoughts are on Project Christmas and ensuring that every young person with cancer in hospital this Christmas receives a special gift delivery.   We know talking about Christmas now may seem early, but we have just over a month to ensure money and donations are collected, gifts are bought and wrapped and packaged up and on their way to hospitals early in December. Having launched Project Christmas at our Next Christmas event last month with the help of our generous supporters and guests, its now time to come together and do what we can to help create those many moments of magic for young cancer patients in hospitals throughout the country this Christmas.   Helping to decorate and light up our Virtual Christmas Tree is a simple and special way of supporting Project Christmas. You can leave a festive message for family, colleagues and clients and send out the link in lieu of sending Christmas cards.   Link - https://lnkd.in/ebTnnUGq #ProjectChristmas #patientgifts #ProjectYouthCancer

We couldn’t not share this post from the charity’s CEO Pam Thornes, celebrating her 19 years with Project Youth Cancer. So many memories, achievements and special moments captures in those pictures, many alongside the charity’s Helen Mervill and some other special members of Team PYC both past and present, some sadly no longer with us, but forever a part of the charity’s story. Pam reminds us all of the power of hope and what can be achieved with compassion, and commitment from a dedicated team. Pam, the gratitude you speak of is most certainly reciprocated from all at the charity. Thank you for your commitment, loyalty and passion. Let’s keep on keeping on 🧡

We put young people at the heart of all we do - through treatment and beyond

19 years with the work Husband! This week marks 19 years since I began my journey with Project Youth Cancer, (formerly The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust) and I couldn’t be more proud of the work we've accomplished together. Over nearly two decades, I’ve had the privilege of being part of a team committed to making a real difference in the lives of young people affected by cancer. Seeing the strength, courage, and resilience of the individuals and families we support has been deeply inspiring. Personally, these years have brought their own challenges—I’ve faced and survived cancer myself, and I’ve battled Covid-19 and won and supported my colleague, Helen, through her journey with cancer… thankfully we are surviving and thriving. These experiences have only deepened my appreciation for the work we do and strengthened my resolve to continue supporting others on their journeys. So, I want to give a special shoutout to the “work husband” of 19 years, Helen, who has been more than just a colleague. Helen has become a true friend, and I’m incredibly grateful for the bond we’ve built over the years, the challenges and the fun we have had. Every day, I’m reminded of the power of hope, compassion, and commitment. It's an honour to work alongside such dedicated colleagues, and to be a part of an organisation that strives to bring comfort and support during some of life’s most difficult moments. As I reflect on these 19 years, I feel immense gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to this mission and for the countless experiences that have enriched my life both professionally and personally. Here’s to continuing this journey and to making an even greater impact in the years ahead! Please if you can.. help

We have been delighted to attend two exceptional events this week, both at which, Charity Ambassadors were keynote speakers. The charity wasn’t being represented as such as the events, but during both the topics covered were very much a part of the charity’s core messages. On Wednesday Jane Moran was at the Huddersfield Giants RLFC WIB Health and Wellness event and presenting her health journey following a cancer diagnosis as a teenager and the resulting invasive and intense treatment, and how nutrition transformed her life. And yesterday, Charity Ambassador and Project Youth Cancer Trustee Sarah Dransfield was at the Huddersfield Town Football Club Inclusion and Empowerment Conference, speaking about her cancer story, leading to an amputation at the age of just 16 and the difficulties she has faced along with many major triumphs. We are so incredibly proud of the Project Youth Cancer team and especially Sarah and Jane this week, who have both spoken about some very personal experiences to benefit others, raise awareness and educate from their lived experience. Sharing experiences and being real about the good and the bad can only improve understanding by all. We empower though knowledge. Congratulations to both Sarah and Jane for two really wonderful appearances and the teams behind both events for creating two outstanding, inspiring events.

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE NIGHT WE SHARED at our Après Ski themed Next Christmas event with Ellie Sax, fundraising for a very special reason. We are delighted to announce that the event raised over £19,000 for Project Christmas and will go a very long way to ensuring all teenagers and young adults with cancer in hospital this Christmas will receive a special Gift Box from all of us. We have a very special thank you for the incredible team at Hako Machines Ltd who have chosen Project Youth Cancer as their Charity of Choice and donated a wonderful £5,000 on the night. Hako along with the event’s headline sponsors Sovereign Wealth Cleckheaton and Fitton & Co are making a big difference to Christmas for many young cancer patients. Thanks also to game and theming sponsors Marstons Chicken Shop , Pass the Parcel Overnight Ltd, The fm Company (UK) Ltd and Plasticraft Displays (Huddersfield) Ltd. And the last thanks this evening, but certainly not least, to Josh Couchman of AnotherWay® Digital for capturing some of the highlights and the Aspen party vibes!

October is Liver Cancer Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   At Project Youth Cancer, we encourage you to get to know your body so you can detect changes quickly. If those changes persist, we advise that you make an appointment with your GP to outline your concerns. Below are some of the symptoms to be aware of. Because many of these symptoms can be commonly attributed to many regular ailments, it is important to be clear about how long you have had these symptoms when you speak to a GP.   #LiverCancerAwarenessMonth #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth #CheckYourselfTuesday
