Fact or fiction? Only older homes are at risk of having high levels of radon 🚨 There’s a common misconception that radon exposure is only a concern for older homes but here’s the truth: 🍃 Radon is not related to the age of a building, but to the geological makeup of the ground beneath it. Radon can affect any home or property, regardless of when it was built. While modern building regulations could potentially include radon-resistant construction techniques, these are not universally applied. Even if applied, they do not guarantee a radon-free environment. 🔑 Testing for radon is the only way to assess the actual risk in any building. Step one of finding out whether your property needs testing for radon is finding out whether you live in a radon affected area 📍🏫 Depending on your area’s geological makeup, it may be prone to having higher radon levels. For example, the Southwest of England and parts of Wales tend to have greater radon levels. Luckily, the UKHSA has published a radon affected area map which is a great tool to use as guidance that can tell you whether or not you may need radon testing. You can find links to the map along with all you need to know about being in a radon affected area in our latest blog 👉 https://lnkd.in/eWHA5-hG #RadonTesting #RadonMitigation #RadonSolution #UKHSA #RadonAffectedAreaMap

If your answer to this poll is YES, then you NEED to test for radon 🚨⏰ Regardless of whether or not you live in a radon affected area, we strongly recommend that all properties with occupied basements be tested for radon. Here’s why: ➡️ Buildings that have basements often have higher levels of radon. One reason for this is the greater number of surface areas in contact with the ground, giving additional pathways for the gas to enter the building. ➡️ Basements often have low air pressure and little ventilation. This means that radon and other soil gases can be pulled in from the rocks and soils around the property at a greater rate, an accumulate within the space. 📣 Case Study: Ensuring Safe Learning Environments through Radon Testing Our client, a leading independent day school in Yorkshire reached out to us for radon testing across multiple sites. We provided 240 radon detectors, conducted detailed analysis and implemented a customised mitigation plan. In doing so, we achieved impressive results, with radon levels significantly reduced and some dropping as low as 4 Bq/m³—well below safety thresholds. Check out the full story to see how we achieved these results! 🔗 https://bit.ly/4eaHMG3 #Radon #RadonTesting #RadonMitigation #CaseStudy #Schools #SchoolSafety

Worried about radon levels in your home but short on time? 🏡 While we recommend carrying out a radon test over several months to obtain the most accurate reading, we understand that this can sometimes be impractical, especially if you're in the process of buying a property. That’s why we offer a 10 Day Radon Test Kit that can deliver quick and efficient results. The test kit contains two passive radon detectors, one for your living room and one for your bedroom. After completing the 10 day test period, you can then return your test kits by post where they’ll be analysed in our independent laboratory, and you’ll receive your results within just 10 working days! Visit our Radon Shop for more information: https://lnkd.in/eHtDCrxR #10DayRadonTestKit #QuickRadonTest #RadonTesting #PropertyBuying #RadonMitigation

Here are Sam and Rob hard at work, installing two different types of radon sumps for two different clients 💪 When it comes to tackling radon gas, installing radon sumps is one of the most effective and widely used mitigation strategies, however what type of sump do you need and how do they work? Here’s how they work: 1️⃣ Radon gas naturally rises from the ground and is often drawn into properties because they serve as low-pressure points. 2️⃣ To stop this, we create a small void beneath the property, which then becomes the lowest pressure point, drawing the radon to the void instead of the property. 3️⃣ In the majority of buildings, the sump can be created from outside by drilling beneath the floor to minimise any disruption. We sometimes refer to this as a ‘mini-sump’. Where a building is very large, has very high radon levels or is not able to be drilled from outside due to the construction design, we may have to excavate internally and install a sump box and pipework within the floor, before relaying the floor over this. 4️⃣ Pipework leading from the sump and an inline fan is then installed on the building’s exterior wall to continuously vent radon from the sump, safely discharging it into the atmosphere, well away from the property. If you’re concerned about radon levels in your home or business, PropertECO can help with testing, mitigation and long-term safety solutions.
