We're grateful to Sir Chris Hoy for so bravely and openly telling his story this morning, and we welcome news that the Government is now actively looking into testing men who have a family history of prostate cancer from the age of 45. 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer but there's currently no screening programme. If your dad or brother has had prostate cancer, or you're Black, you have the highest risk of getting the disease and we strongly recommend you talk to your GP about testing from 45. Right now, you need to be aware of this and bring it up with a GP yourself. As prostate cancer often has no symptoms in its earlier stages this is leading to too many men getting a late, incurable diagnosis - like Sir Chris. The system needs to change. That's why we're calling on the Government to overhaul outdated NHS guidelines so that GPs can start conversations with these men about their higher risk and the option to have a PSA blood test. This move will save thousands of lives every year. ⏰ The earlier you find prostate cancer, the easier it is to treat. ➡️ Find out your own risk, and what you can do about it, using our online Risk Checker: bit.ly/31I3G0d [Photo: Sally Nugent, BBC] #ProstateCancer l #MensHealth l BBC

Abiraterone is a prostate cancer drug which has been shown to reduce the rate of cancer progression and can prevent hundreds of avoidable deaths every year. It's widely available to men in Scotland and Wales who have high-risk prostate cancer that hasn't advanced. Yet in England and Northern Ireland, it can only be given to men with very advanced prostate cancer that's already spread, meaning the drug is still not available to hundreds of other men whose lives could be saved. This situation can't continue. Amy Rylance, our Assistant Director of Health Improvement, said: "We're calling on the government to urgently pull abiraterone out of the stagnant bureaucratic processes that are denying men access to it." ➡️ Find out more: bit.ly/4kFVZyu #ProstateCancer l #MensHealth

"It was quite a shock and difficult to digest. I had no symptoms and was playing all my sports as normal. Physically, I felt absolutely fine." By complete chance after a routine visit to see his physio, Jez was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer - despite having no symptoms or family history of the disease. For too many men, it's a familiar story. Crucially for Jez, his cancer was found before it was too late, which meant he could have surgery to remove his prostate. With more funding for vital research, we can boost the odds of finding the disease earlier. And get more men a lifechanging early diagnosis. ➡️ Donate now: bit.ly/3R7pmMe #ProstateCancer l #MensHealth l #Chance l Jez Lawson

Hello from Castle Donington 👋 We're at Marks and Spencer's state-of-the-art distribution centre in the heart of the East Midlands to celebrate our partnership and raise awareness of prostate cancer among staff. As part of a session which was streamed to staff across M&S, our Specialist Nurse, Lara, was on hand to provide important information about the disease, and bust some common myths and misconceptions. We were also joined by our supporter, Steven, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer six years ago and openly shared his first-hand experience. ➡️ Find out more about our partnership with M&S: bit.ly/4hH7SkI #MarksandSpencer l #ProstateCancer l #Partnership

Right now in the UK, because of things like income, housing and air quality, where you're born can cut your life short by up to 16 years. In prostate cancer, we see stark regional inequity in your likelihood of being diagnosed when your cancer is still localised and easy to cure. And your ethnicity, postcode and income all impact how likely you are to get the NICE - National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recommended treatments. It doesn't have to be this way. 🤝 That's why we're proud to be supporting the Health Equals campaign to #MakeHealthEqual. Together, we can ensure that everyone, everywhere has the chance at a long and healthy life. ➡️ Find out more: bit.ly/4kErVTw #ProstateCancer l #MensHealth
The world around us shapes our health – from warm and safe homes, to stable jobs and clean air. But these building blocks of health aren’t available to everyone in the same way in the UK, and depending on where you're born, can cut your life short by up to 16 years.
