2024's #worldmentalhealthday theme is prioritising mental health in the workplace. A workplace that encourages a culture of pausing, reflecting and seeking help will be contributing to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health. It allows its teams to: ✨ Communicate openly e.g. share concerns with managers and peers. ✨ Set boundaries that work for them e.g. work-rest, holidaying etc. ✨Access available resources to self-regulate and self-prescribe to improve wellbeing e.g. duvet days, EAP programmes, supervision. ✨Support one another within the service e.g. share experiences with peers. ✨Encourage self-care practices at work e.g. lunchtime walks, taking breaks, mindfulness. ✨Advocate for change with managers to build e.g. better support and resources. This year, Black History Month meets the psychological benefits of story-telling. Narrative therapy purports that people, problems and destructive behaviours are separate - that they can see what's working and what isn't for them. With this perspective, individuals can feel more empowered to “rewrite” their life story for a future that reflects who they really are, what they are capable of and what they can achieve, regardless of others' opinions.
