Next week, I have the pleasure of speaking at the United Nations International Year of Quantum opening ceremony. I look forward to joining colleagues and friends at UNESCO's Headquarters to mark 100 years of quantum mechanics, the deep foundations upon which we're building our company and our revolutionary technology. We’re slashing the timeline to commercial quantum computing by diving deep into the fundamentals: in this case circuit depth, which is essentially the number of operations needed to complete an algorithm. A computer’s error rate determines how “deep” your circuits can go. For example, an error rate of 1/1000 means you can run circuits up to 1000 operations deep before error creeps in. We’re focusing on optimizing common subroutines—the building blocks of many industrial algorithms. By making these more efficient, we can make once-impossible circuits possible. Our latest breakthrough? A major upgrade in how we implement a widely used subroutine called “the scalar product,” which spans applications from materials simulation to AI. We’ve developed a new method that slashes circuit depth and dramatically reduces resource requirements, bringing real-world quantum applications closer than ever.
