Informatics researchers from the Quantum Software Lab will be involved in two out of five newly announced EPSRC-funded Quantum Software Hubs, collaborating with colleagues in Oxford and Heriot-Watt. "As the Director of Quantum Software Lab and Chief Scientist at the National Quantum Computing Centre, I am privileged to lead our strategic partnership within both the QCI3 and IQN Hubs." - Professor Elham Kashefi The QCI3 Hub aims to develop technologies for building quantum computers, advancing UK capabilities across hardware and software and targeting applications in a wide range of industry sectors. QSL colleagues will lead in creating essential hardware scaling tools. The IQN Hub aims to develop technologies for a UK-wide quantum internet, enhancing cybersecurity and distributed quantum computing. Quantum Software Lab is delighted to be part of the recent £100m announcement in support of UK world-leading Quantum Technology Hubs. QSL will play a leading role in Quantum Software, developing tools vital for scaling hardware, from quantum error correction to protocols for secure distributed quantum computing, quantum-HPC integration, and hybrid quantum-classical algorithms. Congratulations to our colleagues at the QCI3 Hub led by Prof Dominic O'Brien and Prof Andrew Daley at University of Oxford. Further, QSL is delighted to partner with the IQN Hub to investigate quantum learning theory and novel protocols for secured multi-party computing that combine both classical and quantum communication. The 3rd UK Quantum Hackathon 2024 kicked off this morning at the University of Warwick in the presence of 140 people including over 70 coders, 38 mentors and service providers and the supporting team members. The UK Quantum Hackathon is the NQCC’s flagship annual event, delivered as part of our user engagement programme, SparQ. The event brings together teams of aspiring coders with industry mentors, to tackle practical challenges and develop solutions using quantum computing. Aimed at students and early career researchers, participants will gain hands-on experience using quantum algorithms and coding with quantum computers. This year’s event runs over 3 days, with the participants working in teams to develop solutions, showcase their results and demonstrate how they would tackle challenges in areas as diverse as healthcare, energy, and engineering. Applications are now open for the Proof of Concept Call in Quantum Computing! The NQCC, in collaboration with STFC’s Campus and Cluster team, is pleased to announce the launch of a call for business-led proof of concept projects in quantum computing. Funded through the NQCC’s SparQ programme, this initiative aims to facilitate the exploration of practical applications for quantum computing and use cases that are relevant to the public, private, and charitable sectors.
