About us

Founded by Emma and Jude (Em's mum) in October 2019, the Radical team has placed over 550 people who are furthest from the labour market - we call them our ‘Super Radicals’ - into good jobs, that offer fair pay in exchange for meaningful work. Radical Recruit offers select partners sponsorship opportunities. In return, their sponsors get access to a large pool of work ready entry level Radical talent, trauma informed leadership training and co-branded impact stories to share internally and across their digital channels.     I met this guy years ago - he came to our Soup Kitchen because he had been banned from other places. He was insecure and came a long way to get to us every weekend. I could tell he was lonely. He didn’t have a lot of money, but he was housed in a small one bed. I sort of felt like it was my job really to make him feel like he had a family here. He did. He developed a little friendship group and slowly became more trusting and vocal about what he needed. After about a year of being there, he told me he really needed a microwave. His had broken and he didn’t have the funds to replace it. He said he still wanted to come and eat with us because we were nice. We posted about it. The same day someone from the community came and delivered a basically new microwave. He was so happy. He was crying tears. He had this big grin on his face and wouldn’t stop smiling, hugging that microwave like it was the most important thing in the world. “No one has ever done anything that nice for me before.” he said, wiping his eyes. “I just can’t believe it!” he said. “Do you know, I didn’t want to say anything because I’m not that important but it’s actually my birthday today and this has made my whole year.” he said tearfully. He was wrong. He is that important. It made me sad to think his worth was so diminished that he couldn’t even have basic kitchen equipment. We hugged. He left, taking his microwave with him. He sent me a photo of him with it a few weeks later. It’s the little things. We think people at Soup Kitchens and homelessness drop ins only want money or only have one agenda in mind. Ask them. You might be surprised. #homelessness #loneliness #helpinghands

    Who do you wish you you had in your corner when you were starting your career? Could you be that person for someone else? We're looking for three mentors from our volunteering community to support with mentoring three interns over a 10 week period. This consists of 30 minutes, once per week, from w/c 24th June, through to the end of August. All mentoring sessions will be remote! As a mentor, you will: ⭐ Look out for your mentee's welfare, offering support, advice, or guidance wherever they may need it. ⭐Talk through any challenges and coach your mentee on how to approach these. ⭐Provide career advice and guidance. ⭐Encourage, motivate, and help your mentee to build confidence. We'd love to hear from anyone from a marketing, graphic design or sustainability background (as these are the areas that the interns will be working in), but anyone with a passion for helping people learn and grow would be equally wonderful (thinking L&D and "People" people!)     Good Morning, Radicals! So we're starting off Monday with some Radical myth busting. One of our favourite things to do, especially when it comes to reframing the narrative about homeless folks. So here are 7 myths about homeless people that are easily debunked in case we have any 'it's a lifestyle choice' humans who accidentally followed our page! 1. All homeless people use drugs and alcohol. According to a report by Homeless Link (2018), only 27% of homeless individuals reported drug dependency, and 37% reported alcohol dependency. 2. All homeless people are uneducated. Homeless Link's survey (2020) found that 42% of homeless individuals had at least a Level 2 qualification (equivalent to GCSEs), indicating a range of educational backgrounds among the homeless population. 3. All homeless people are single and without caregiving or parental responsibilities. Data from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government (2020) showed that family homelessness accounted for over 56% of those in temporary accommodation in England, highlighting that homelessness affects families, not just individuals. 4. Homelessness and criminality are synonymous. Research by Crisis (2019) found that while homeless people may have higher interaction with the police but that this is often due to their visibility and societal factors, not an increased propensity for criminal behavior. 5. Homeless people are unskilled. A survey by Homeless Link (2020) indicated that many homeless individuals possess diverse skills but are often unable to find employment due to various barriers, including the lack of a fixed address. 6. Homeless people are lazy. A study by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (2018) emphasized that the leading causes of homelessness include structural factors like unemployment, lack of affordable housing, and mental health issues, rather than a lack of personal ambition. 7. People who are homeless are beyond help. With the right support, including access to housing and health services, many homeless individuals can and do make the transition to stable living situations. We have placed hundreds of homeless people into work over the years. Can vouch! This is a photo of Emma Freivogel, our founder, and our Radical, Steve who was thirty years homeless when she met him. It took six weeks of intensive support and few thousand quid to support him into his first job, and secure accommodation which he remain in, almost four years on.     Good Morning, Radicals! Woken up on the wrong side of the bed? Need a little something to brighten your day? Well, we've got a Radical good news story that will do just that! Meet Suranne, one of our amazing young Radicals. Six weeks ago, Suranne joined our ranks as one of our exceptional young Radicals. We registered her for an exciting Programme Assistant role with MyBnk, one of our favourite charity clients. Suranne's journey was supported with two weeks of intensive guidance. We worked closely with her to evaluate her candidacy, refine her job application, and prepare thoroughly for her interview. With a few motivational pep talks along the way, Suranne excelled and secured the position! Now, she’s embarking on her second month in the role, thriving and embracing her new professional life. Young people from BAME backgrounds often face significant challenges when entering the labour market, including limited access to networks, biases in hiring processes, and fewer opportunities for professional development. Our mission at Radical Recruit is to address these barriers head-on, providing the support and encouragement needed to ensure that talented individuals like Suranne can achieve their full potential.      Do you remember what it was like to get your first job?   Many of our young Radicals feel like they’ve won the lottery when their pay lands in their bank for the first time..   And then reality kicks in….   Because managing the cost of living can prove very tricky when you’re earning an entry level salary and have bills to pay.   As part of our post placement support, we’ve spent countless hours helping our Radicals out of sticky situations because they have never learnt how to budget or manage their money in the right way.   That’s why we love the amazing work undertaken by a very special charity called MyBnk.   They offer expert-led financial education programmes, empowering young people to take charge of their future by bringing money to life.   Radical Recruit are thrilled to announce our new partnership with My Bnk who have recruited 2 Radicals into their ranks as Programme Assistants.   Our Radicals joined the My Bnk team at the start of May and are rocking their new roles with the support of 2 exceptional line managers.   Leon Ward, My Bnk CEO said:   “Investing in young talent is so important to me and so I was absolutely delighted to be able to partner with Radical Recruit.
