We’d like to give a big thank you to all our farming team and growers for their hard work during the 2024 harvest season. After a season of extreme bad weather, we finally got the break we needed from the rain to get started on harvest. Here’s a little round up of our 2024 wheat harvest: 🌾 Our BYDV-resistant variety RGT Grouse impressed growers across the board and has given them the confidence to expand growth area. 🍞 Skyfall continued its years long success and continues to be the nation’s favourite Group 1 milling wheat, especially with its wide sowing window. 🌱 RGT Goldfinch, another of our BYDV-resistant varieties, continued to grab the attention of farmers for its insecticide-free capabilities. #arablefarming #harvest #team #farmers #combineharvester #crops #agriculture

Earlier this month Farmers Weekly reported on our piece with Suffolk farmer, Michael Gooderham, on his experience with RGT Grouse. Whilst under pressure from BYDV, Michael attended an open day with us and decided to give the variety a go when he learned of its resistance to the virus. It certainly paid off for him, and Michael now plans to increase the area grown this autumn. As a second wheat he achieved a very good 10.3t/ha at 15% moisture and as a first wheat it achieved 10.8t/ha with a specific weight of 76kg/hl. A recent study was conducted by Adas, alongside Affinity Water and Portsmouth Water, to quantify the impact of winter covers on nitrogen availability and how this affected the following spring cereal crop. The findings concluded that drilling a winter cover crop mix can increase soil nitrogen by up to 35kg N/ha and reduces nitrate leaching by 90% compared with a weedy stubble.
