This week our technical expert Andrew Creasy and Cereals/OSR product manager Edward Stanford visited the OSR breeding station in Annoeullin to see how future OSR varieties establish. 🌱 They received a fantastic talk from the breeding team there, which includes talks on targets and the best suited varities (often ones you may not have thought!). For example, whilst a variety may look good initially on paper it may suffer stem elongation, frost damage or rapid growth without the proper strength development. Shown in pictures 2-4. Breeders will score a variety based on establishment using a yes/no to avoid taking varieties into the breeding program which would not be suitable. As shown in the 5th picture with two no's surrounding a yes. This was a great opportunity for them to learn more about the hard work that goes on from the teams behind the scenes of your varieties.
