With an impressive 100K votes, Maghull has claimed the title of 'Station with the Best Local Business' in the #WorldCupofStations 2024! 🎉 A big thank you to everyone who voted. This year, the focus was on the stations that do more than just get people from point A to point B. It’s about celebrating the relationship between our railways and local businesses: the cafes, shops, and local businesses that make these places more than just a stop on the journey. Did you know that local high streets benefit more when people travel by rail than by other modes of transport, with rail passengers in the UK spending an average of £32 in the towns and cities they depart from. https://lnkd.in/ei4GUskw

The WINNER of the #WorldCupofStations 2024 is Maghull. Congratulations on being crowned the station with the best local businesses. Jacqueline Starr, Chief Executive Officer at Rail Delivery Group, said: “Maghull station’s win in the 2024 World Cup of Stations is a fantastic reflection of the important role local businesses play in our stations and communities. “Local businesses highlight how stations can be more than just places to travel from—they are key parts of the local economy and social fabric. A huge congratulations to Maghull for this well-deserved victory.”

Chief Customer and Culture Officer Transport for Wales (TfW) Chair of Women in Rail | Diversity and Inclusion Advocate

It was privilege to join industry peers today for a roundtable organised by the Rail Delivery Group - which represents and supports train operating companies in Britain's rail sector - to discuss the crucial issue of tackling violence against women and girls and the role of public transport operators. This is an issue that affects the safety and wellbeing of millions of passengers and as a mother of two young daughters, we have a collective responsibility to create an environment where everyone feels safe and supported. During the discussion it was clear that we’ve made progress through dedicated training programmes and by using data to identify hotspots and patterns but we also recognised there is much more to be done. At Transport for Wales, we have a zero tolerance to any form of sexual harassment or sexual offence and we are committed to working together with our partners across the industry to build a culture where safety is a priority and every passenger feels protected. That starts with our staff feeling empowered to respond effectively and compassionately and also requires our customers, who may be bystanders to sexual harassment, to also feel empowered to intervene. To support us in our journey, we have also partnered with Aberystwyth University and commissioned research into women’s safety and their perceptions of public transport to inform our future strategy. 💫 Thanks Jacqueline Starr for bringing us together. Addressing this issue requires continuous collaboration, conversation, awareness and innovative solutions. I’m looking forward to turning these discussions into meaningful action. 💫 Thanks too for letting me try out your virtual realty tool – an immersive experience which allows users to experience and understand different scenarios of sexual harassment. #transportsafety #RailSafety #EndViolenceAgainstWomen

A huge thank you to everyone who voted in the #WorldCupofStations! This competition spotlighted local businesses and their vital role in connecting communities and bringing people together. 4 in 5 passengers across the country support businesses in and around train stations and on local high streets when travelling by rail. That's an estimated 3.4m rail passengers shopping at local businesses each day! https://lnkd.in/ei4GUskw

Thank you to all those that joined, took part in and helped organise our hybrid Rail Unites for Inclusion Black History Month event today, with the theme this year - #ReclaimingNarratives. We are feeling very reflective after our event and are already considering what actions we need to take to better support our Black colleagues and communities. One of our Co-Chairs Odis Palmer hosted a very powerful panel session with brilliant panellists @Sharon Lee, Director at ARUP @Richard Ndikumana, Station Staff, LNER and Ola Ogun, RDG's Chief Financial Office. Ola also delivered an exceptional keynote speech and reflections, at the end of some insightful breakout sessions, including one focused on understanding the experiences of Black colleagues across the industry. We also briefly heard from our fourth panellist Chance Bleu-Montgomery from the Bridge of Hope Careers who also joined us for our break-out session around how we can give back and support our Black Communities. Outputs from the session are being reviewed and will be shared with attendees. Ola Ogun emphasised the importance of everyone committing to taking relevant actions beyond the event. We will continue to deliver on actions to support our colleagues industry-wide. If you want to find out more, please email apeksha.naik@gbrtt.co.uk There are 4 photos from the event below. The main one is of most of the in-person attendees and the other 3 photos include the breakout session facilitators, some of the planning team and the panel. Visiting Dorridge with Harry Burr today as the station has reached the final of Rail Delivery Group’s World Cup of Stations competition. 🏆 The competition celebrates the best that stations have to offer across the UK. With a particular focus on local businesses this year. Dorridge station had a community-led refresh earlier this year and the station’s coffee shop (Espresso) is hugely popular and was full of people supporting their local station today. The station has done tremendously well to reach this far and we need one more big effort to help Dorridge get over the line in the final. Votes can be registered throughout today here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eG3C3W6J Chiltern Railways #dorridge #worldcupofstations #competition
