We are thrilled to announce that Ramboll has acquired K2 Management, a global leader in wind and solar energy consultancy. This strategic acquisition significantly strengthens our Wind division, adding nearly 200 experts and expanding our capabilities in strategic advisory and project development. With this acquisition, Ramboll's global Wind division now boasts over 900 dedicated professionals across 20 countries, including new local presences in Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, and Portugal. This is exactly why you should renovate instead of building new 👏🏨 As the built environment is responsible for 40% of global CO2 emissions, prioritising renovation over building new plays a vital role in decarbonising the construction sector. Renovating has the potential to be up to 45% more cost effective and can be more resilient to a changing climate, catering to a variety of future needs and functions. A great example of renovation is Hotel Mestari. In the 1930s, Finland's construction expertise gathered to create their new headquarters in Helsinki. As the business grew and developed, so did the building. In the early 2000s, needs had changed, and the property began its transformation into a hotel. Today, Hotel Mestari is a modern lifestyle hotel that, in addition to nine meeting rooms, also has a sauna, gym and restaurant in a unique location. Seeing the value in this renovated building, Ramboll advised real estate owner Rakennusmestarien Säätiö sr (the Builders’ Foundation) on their operator search and lease contract negotiations after running a successful international competition for the owner. From this, Strawberry has announced the hotel as an addition to their portfolio, continuing the hotel’s success in the years to come. Transforming urban transport for a sustainable future in Finland! 🚆🌍 In Finland, urban light rail projects are pivotal in encouraging commuters to choose collective transport over cars. A prime example is the Jokeri Light Rail, a 25-kilometre line connecting Helsinki and Espoo. At Ramboll, we led a team of partners to deliver cost-efficient and biodiversity-preserving solutions for this transformative project. Inaugurated in October 2023, Jokeri Light Rail replaces the region's busiest bus line, with an expected daily ridership of 90,000 by 2030 - more than double today's numbers. This project, integral to Finland's net-zero ambitions, is set to reduce CO2 emissions by 85% and NO2 emissions by 95% compared to the bus line. It also promotes urban development, with new housing and workplaces along the route, supporting two million residents and over a million jobs by 2050. Today, as the world cheers for the athletes at the Paris Olympics, we also mark Earth Overshoot Day 🌍⬇️ This means we have already used up the Earth's natural resources for the year. For the remainder of 2024, we will use resources that our planet can’t naturally regenerate. Just as Olympians push the limits of human potential in their competitions, we need to strive to win the most crucial race of all – the race to end global overshoot. As this year’s Earth Overshoot Day falls on August 1, we are far from crossing the finish line. This race is one we all need to participate in. Along with governments, companies, and non-profits around the world, we must work to limit the man-made footprint on nature and reduce the strain on Earth's resources.
