As we mark Remembrance Day, RAND Europe continues to work on identifying how we can better support military families across the UK. 🎖️ Are you a member of the Royal Air Force (RAF), Royal Navy (RN) or Royal Marines (RM) community? Take part in new research to help support serving and former-serving RAF, RN and RM families. Greenwich Hospital and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund are conducting a joint research project to understand the support needs of current and former RN, RM and RAF personnel and their families. RAND Europe is conducting the research and are seeking participants for a survey and research interviews. If you are a serving/former serving member of the RAF, RN or RM, or their partner/spouse, your insights are valuable. RAND Europe invites you to complete an online survey (20-30 minutes) or participate in a research interview (up to 1 hour) to share your views and experiences. Participation is voluntary and anonymous, and participants can enter a prize draw to win up to £250. If you are interested in taking part, you can find more information via: 💻 The project website at https://lnkd.in/e6Uusv4M 📧 Or email the team at mtn_research@randeurope.org #remembranceday #veteranresearch #militaryfamilies #veteransupport

The UK has been working to bolster its investment in the space sector - but is it good value for money? Our evaluation of the Centre for Earth Observation Instrumentation (CEOI) is well underway, and the interim report has just been published. Lead author Dr Billy Bryan said, "The UK is a strong player in earth observation research and development because its funding system supports new ideas all the way to commercialisation. CEOI is a key part of that. It provides crucial support at the early stages and helps products get to market. It was even a first step in the UK's journey to leadership of the TRUTHS mission for the European Space Agency." Read more: https://lnkd.in/ebN2QdMR

Yesterday’s budget promised to deliver more spending on public services through cash injection and borrowing. Obviously, this is quite a gamble - hoping that a front-loaded injection of money will be enough to improve public services going forward. A lot depends on how the government spends this money. Especially in light of some of their high profile campaign promises - such as how to provide a high quality early years places as expansion is rolled out to offer more places to younger children over the next two years. What does our research tell us about how the government might do this successfully? ⭐️ Ensure that the campaign pledge to use empty school classrooms to help deliver the offer of increased early years spaces is in areas that need spaces the most ⭐️ Foster collaborative working across schools, PVIs, and childminders to ensure the best offer for families and providers ⭐️ Support the early years workforce to be seen as a more than ‘just’ childminders. #AutumnBudget #EarlyYears

When it comes to C.difficile infections, “faecal microbiota transplantation is highly effective, with an 80-90% cure rate after 1-2 infusions,” says Dr. Tariq Iqbal, gastroenterologist and professor at the University of Birmingham. But challenges in the UK include cost, finding donors and licensed facilities to help ensure quality control. Watch the full interview: https://lnkd.in/e9q7eSA7 #gastroenterology

Centralised stool banks are important to treating recurrent C.difficile infections with faecal microbiota transplants (FMT). Unfortunately, there is a lack of them in countries like Italy and the UK. We explored this, and other, issues in delivering FMT for C.difficile in different country contexts. Find out more: Italy: https://lnkd.in/ebHjPVTb UK: https://lnkd.in/e8Cxmps9 #gastroenterology
