A bottle of Sussex Sparkling makes a memorable gift. Given to mark a career milestone, or delivered to a client after a job well done, bottles of Rathfinny have created many special - and delicious - moments. Our wines also age beautifully in the magnum bottles; flavours gradually develop over time while retaining the freshness and vitality that speaks to our chalk vineyards. This is something appreciated by the editors of the Gentleman's Journal, who placed the Blanc de Noirs 2018 magnum in their recent weekly picks.

Rathfinny Estate is dedicated to producing the finest Sussex Sparkling wines from a perfect site in England.
About us
The Rathfinny Wine Estate was established in 2010 by Mark and Sarah Driver and is now producing Sussex Sparkling wines that rival the best traditional method sparkling wines in the world. As well a wine producer, the Estate is a popular destination for visitors, walkers and wine enthusiasts. In the Winery, the Cellar Door offers organised Vineyard tours from March to September, and an opportunity to taste and buy our wines. Next to it, with its large panoramic windows and balcony overlooking the Vineyard, the new Tasting Room Restaurant is open five days a week and serves seasonal menus using locally sourced ingredients to match our wines and is run by the celebrated chef, Chris Bailey. For those that want to make the most of what the area has to offer, the Flint Barns provide wonderful ‘home from home’ accommodation with full English breakfasts and sumptuous Sunday lunches. Private events and specialist tastings can be arranged. The Rathfinny Estate is located between Brighton and Eastbourne, in the South Downs National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty in Southern England. It occupies the main part of Cradle Valley, on a south-facing slope close to the iconic Cuckmere Valley and just three miles from the sea and half a mile south of the beautiful village of Alfriston. As well as being a stunning site, the Rathfinny Vineyard is perfect for growing sparkling wine grapes: The light, thin, clay loam soils over chalk, are free draining and very similar to the Champagne region of France, perfect for growing sparkling wine grapes. The chalk provides a ready source of water for the vines and a heat sink to aid ripening. The warm semi-continental climate and long summer days ensure perfect ripening and the proximity to the sea helps mitigate frost risk, a major problem in cooler climate vineyards in northern Europe. You can find our sparkling wines in many restaurants and independent wine merchants.

We were delighted to feature alongside other top English sparkling wines at a trade event in Japan last week, hosted by UK in Japan and coordinated by WineGB. Japan is an exciting market for our Sussex Sparkling wine, with craftsmanship and exceptional quality being highly valued. Thank you to Vin Passion who supports us in Japan, and the Department for Business and Trade for facilitating.
This week, in conjunction with Department for Business and Trade and UK in Japan, we coordinated our largest export event in Japan to date. Japan is the second biggest export market for GB wine behind Norway. The event, which attracted top buyers and sommeliers, featured wines from six producers: Balfour Winery Black Chalk Wine Gusbourne Hattingley Valley Wines Rathfinny Wine Estate and Roebuck Estates.

Less than three miles from the English Channel, we are a grower-producer with a deep connection to the sea. The coastal breezes that move through Cradle Valley have a positive effect on the grapes we grow and the Sussex Sparkling wines we make. The 10th Harvest at Rathfinny is underway! Over 250 pickers are out in the Vineyards, helping to bring in the grapes for the 2024 vintage. It is a fantastic social occasion, and we have directly recruited all our amazing pickers from our local community. There are many familiar faces as so many have returned from previous years. With 385,000 vines to pick and only a few short weeks to get all the fruit to the Winery, it's all hand on deck. The Estate is open throughout October, and the drama of harvest makes it a wonderful time of year to explore Rathfinny. Thank you to our esteemed trade guests who have joined us at the Estate to celebrate our 10th Harvest Anniversary. As a grower-producer, it is always a highlight of our year to host industry friends and provide a chance to get hands-on in the Vineyard and experience our most coveted Sussex Sparkling wines where they are made. We’ve snipped, poured and sipped our way through two days of visits, and have another next Tuesday to look forward to. Thanks again to all who made the trip to the Estate and the wonderful Liberty Wines Ltd for supporting our partners in the day-to-day. Feel free to connect with Andrew Gadd, Richard James DipWSET and Abigail Thomas from the sales team with any questions you might have about our wines and future events at Rathfinny. #Rathfinny10Harvest
