  • 💬 On #MentalHealthAwarenessDay, a lot of conversations are rightly happening around the importance of openness and communication around our mental health experiences. Accepting the fact mental health challenges affect us all and should be understood as a part of life is a vital step towards creating a society that’s fairer and kinder to all. 🫶 Where we at Raw Material feel we can contribute to the conversation is by highlighting the very real connection between creativity and mental health. The success of our creative-health programmes attests to the fact that creating, sharing space and socially interacting with others are all genuine routes to improving one’s experience of a mental health condition. 💡 In times of struggle, we should always remember the community and resources we have around us. Below is a list of many verified support services available to people living in and around Lambeth. Please share this resource with anyone who might benefit. https://lnkd.in/ezU2da-D

  • Raw Material Music and Media Stands United Against Racism and Fascism In light of the recent wave of racist and Islamophobic attacks that have swept across our country, at Raw Material we want to speak out in support of all those directly and indirectly affected. Social justice and racial equity are key pillars of our work, and we are dedicated to building inclusive communities. We therefore unequivocally condemn these acts of hatred and violence. Racism and fascism have no place in our society. From the despicable acts of violence that we have seen over the weekend to the less visible but everyday racism that so many in this country experience, we know this not only harms individuals but also tears at the fabric of our communities, fostering fear and division. At Raw Material, we believe in the power of creativity and collaboration to bring people together and to promote understanding and respect for all cultures and backgrounds. We stand in solidarity with those affected by these racist attacks and with all communities targeted by hatred and bigotry. We commit to using our platform to amplify our community’s voices, to educate against ignorance, and to advocate for a society where diversity is celebrated, and all people are treated with dignity and respect. Our work will continue to focus on empowering our community members through creativity, providing them with the tools to express themselves, to tell their stories, and to challenge injustices. We pledge to create spaces where everyone can thrive, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background. We call on our supporters, partners, and the wider community to join us in taking a stand against racism and fascism in all their forms. Together we can work towards a culture of love, understanding and unity.

  • 💫 Last Thursday, Raw Material and Vevo came together to commemorate the end of Raw Talent, our specialised music-industry placement programme, at an event in which we held discussions with some of Vevo's current staff on their journeys to where they are today. 🎈 We’re sharing the highlights of some fascinating conversations with an equally inspiring group of creative professionals, all of them with very different roles and at very different stages in their professional lives. ☘️ A common theme to come out of these discussions was undoubtedly that self-belief, a struggle for so many of us, can become our biggest asset. Making your way in any industry is all about handling yourself in the face of uncertainty, putting yourself in challenging situations, knowing your worth and coming across well to the right people. 🫶 We’d like to thank all the speakers, along with our audience, Raw Talent mentees, Vevo and Raw Material for making such a valuable and informative event possible. Follow @rawmusicmedia for news of more creative opportunities and, later in the year, the relaunch of Raw Talent! ⭐ Thank you everyone!

  • We are delighted to be expanding our Board to include two exciting new Trustees, whose wealth of knowledge and experience will greatly strengthen our Board. Kelly M., Legal Adviser at Goldsmiths University, joins the Board as Raw’s ‘Legal’ Trustee and will be supporting our organisation with all things governance, legal and HR. “I’d been following the work of Raw Material for some time before joining the Board and was consistently impressed by the team’s commitment to the diverse communities they work with, and the impact of the work on the individuals I met and talked to. I love the music events as there is such a sense of community and support. I’m very happy to be able to share my knowledge and expertise to help this charity develop its work even further and make sure it’s in great shape for the future” Claudia de Wolff, Vice President of Content and Programming at VEVO UK - joins us as our ‘Creative Industries’ Trustee and will oversee our rapidly developing links to music and creative industry partners. "Having worked in partnership with the team at Raw Material on our Vevo mentorship scheme, I have always been so impressed by the work they do, the facilities they offer and the impact they can have on young people who aspire to be involved in the creative and music industries. With my experience in the music and media industries, I am excited to join the board and continue and develop the work they are doing in this space.” We thank them both for their commitment and look forward to working closely with them through our next phase of development. https://lnkd.in/ezT98FUT
