This week, 40 politicians wrote to the Chancellor, reiterating the College's call for "urgent assurances that GP practices will be given the same protection as the rest of the NHS and public sector, and receive the necessary funding to cover these additional costs." Many GP practices are already struggling to keep their doors open and make ends meet due to historic chronic underfunding. We will continue to raise our serious concerns regarding the impact this increase may have on practices, and ultimately patient care.

With the conclusion of the RCGP AGM this evening, I’m thrilled to officially start my role as RCGP GP Registar Vice Chair alongside Dr. Akram Hussain & Deepthi Lavu as Co-Chairs. In many ways it’s not a very fun time to be a GP Registrar. We are faced with huge pressures on a chronically underfunded primary care service, post-CCT jobs crisis and the general pressure and financial burdens of being a Resident Doctor. I’m very much looking forward to working with Akram and Deepthi to provide a voice for GP Registars on these and other important issues such as improving exam resources provided by the college, ensuring GP Registrars are getting value for their membership and lobbying for equity in training resources such as study budgets across the four nations. If you are a GP Registrar and want to hear more about our plans, raise any concerns or are interested in becoming a GP Registrar rep, please be sure to get in touch at gpregistrars@rcgp.org.uk Royal College of General Practitioners https://lnkd.in/grQTZNmw

Here’s a rundown of how we voted this evening: Members voted against Special Resolution 4 on the future composition of the Trustee Board and we will reflect on the discussions and consider next steps. The College voted to change the name of Chair of Council to President from November 2025 to avoid confusion over the titles and align ourselves to other Royal Medical Colleges. Our ceremonial head, currently President, will be known as Provost. No changes to the election process or duties have been made. The College voted to use the name GP Registrar with immediate effect for our GPs in training. Thanks to everyone who joined us in person and online tonight.
