What a great time we had at Reach Events in Derby yesterday seeing the progress of the Reach Communty Grocers and meeting other sponsors from in the rail industry and beyond too. Did you know that 2 in every 5 children in Derby live in Poverty? Alstom wants to make a difference and I’m proud that through the UK&I Community Project Fund we can support initiatives in our local areas that aim to tackle challenges such as these in the communities we operate in. Thank you so much to Karina Martin Mst and the whole of the Reach Events team for having Phil Hennessy and I to see the shop and the hub start to come to life! If you’re interested in supporting this project or finding out more please let myself or Karina Martin Mst know! Looking forward to coming back and rolling our sleeves up to do some painting etc at the end of the month and see the shop and hub open later in the year. It was really good to attend the Reach Events celebratory event for the community Grocer due to open in September. A massive well done to Karina Martin Mst and Chipper Betts, Gillian Davel (Manager), Mareliese Welgemoed, Adam Davies and the team. It is a brilliant initiative that will not only help provide food to those who need it but will give people new skills and a community to be part of. Karina stated that 23,000 children in Derby - equating to around two in five - are suffering from child poverty and are struggling for daily essentials. So it shows there is such a real need for the grocers. It will be a lovely environment, like a farm shop, and it won't be means tested and will be £5 to join with £6 to shop and this will give each person around £30 of groceries. If you can contribute either by time to help the customers with developing skills, for example, interview skills, CV writing etc or can make a financial, please contact Gillian Davel on here or email gillian@reachcommunitygrocers.org. And what a great contribution from Alstom, CROSS COUNTRY TRAINS LIMITED, Star Refrigeration and @ACI Commercial Interiors (and others). And it was lovely to see and catch up with 🔷Amanda Strong, Sarita Harrar FBDO, Bev Crighton, Tracy Harrison, Mike Cole, Liz Cole, Kezia Martin, Yvonne Gorman, Robert Lamb PhD CEng FInstR, Suzanne Dixon, Sharon Stevens-Cash, Emma Sarjeant, Jill Matthews, Laura Parry, Jenny Hudson, Adam Jackson 📸. We have loved seeing everyone's photos and hearing about their key take-aways from our event, where we highlighted the importance of the Community Grocers that we're building here at Reach. So many of you came away shocked at current food poverty statistics, and we're delighted that so many now want to support us! We open in September, and sharing this journey with you all has been such a blessing. Here's to opening day!

Thank you, Karina Martin Mst for inviting me to a delightful summer celebration at Reach Events this week. It was really inspiring to hear about the progress on the Community Green Grocers, which will undoubtedly support many families in need during challenging times. I remember when Karina mentioned the idea of this project to me, so to see it close to being up and running is very exciting. I always enjoy visiting Reach, where everyone is so kind and welcoming. I had the pleasure of speaking with Richard, a volunteer at Reach, who shared how everyone has been contributing to this project so far. Well done to all involved. I look forward to following the progress! #communityimpact #makeadifference

Fundraising, coaching and strategy to help charity leaders grow life-changing organisations.

Have you ever hosted an event attended by so many lovely people you want to hang out with, that you don't want it to end?! That was me yesterday.... 😀 😍 We were celebrating all the people who have helped us get this far in launching our Community Grocers and Hub. Like our sponsors, including Alstom's Lydia Lyons and Phil, David Jones and team (we missed you Clare Shaw) from Cross Country Trains, Laura Parry, Robert Lamb, Richard Yeo and Nathan Craig. ....then there were our volunteers, like retiree Richard Green, who's been helping renovate the shop and Jake, our joiner and the wonderful Rheese Davel who helped put our whole event together and Jacki who brought us flowers. Plus all our amazing business friends and clients including Bev Crighton, Tracy Harrison, Rebecca Brown, 📣 Jonathan Leach, 🔷Amanda Strong, Jenny Hudson, Sharon Stevens-Cash, Yvonne Gorman, Suzanne Dixon, Sarita Harrar, Marie Walls, Mike and Liz Cole, Adam Jackson 📸, Julia Dallimore 📸 and so many more! (see if you can spot yourself in the photos below!) And of course thanks to Helen and Ralph Skripek, at Butlers Pantry for providing a beautiful afternoon tea. What also moved me is that yesterday I found out we are only a few thousand pounds now from our fundraising target 😃... so if your business would like to support the Community Grocer's, opening in September, please get in touch with our new manager, Gillian Davel. (And if you're in the charity sector and want to know how to grow your own social impact project, join me online for some brilliant content, contributors and community this autumn.... https://lnkd.in/epP57FQR)

Creating opportunities to build skills, reducing food waste and changing food poverty statistics in Derby.......3 excellent reasons to be a part of our new Community Grocers at Reach! We're proud of this initiative, and so thankful for all the support we have received so far. We can't wait to launch in September! #communitygrocers #socialenterprise #derbybusiness

Yesterday, we were privileged to be invited to Reach Events launch of the new Community Grocer initiative. With an estimated 23,000 children in Derby living in poverty, this brilliant scheme will allow families to shop their daily essentials at a vastly reduced cost - roughly 20% of the actual value! There will also be the opportunity to gain essential skills, like budgeting, CV-writing, etc, to help them escape the poverty-trap. Julia & I will be supporting this initiative in any way we can. Thank you to Karina Martin Mst for inviting us! #positiveimpact #community #derby #skills #dignity

😳Yes, I had 4 cakes... they were teeny (and if I put them all together, they'd make one cake)! 🍬Just like '10 Celebrations make one chocolate bar' theory! 😳 🥹So last year I met a whole bunch of amazing people at my Coworking space. ❤️Reach Events then made the fabulous decision of converting the space into a community grocers to help the local community, stop food waste, and even help educate their members with free courses eg cooking and handling money. 💰For £6 they will receive £25 - £30 worth of food. If they can't afford that, there is a pay forward scheme, so their purchase can be covered by somebody's donation. 🍰 Yesterday they shared their plans with us over an evening afternoon tea get together, and I was reunited with my former office mates Suzanne, Yvonne, Jack, and everyone that looked after us and our space including Kezia Martin, Mariliese, Pouya, and even caught up with 📣 Jonathan Leach CHECK THE FOOD OUT!! 😱 #Event #Networking

I really should have taken more photos. But I was so engrossed with this project. Karina Martin Mst and the team Reach Events are opening a Community Grocer in September, hearing their plans is very heartwarming. Sadly people need this help and it’s wonderful to hear the support they have already received from the local business community. I didn’t take enough photos! But captured the lovely Richard Yeo of ACI Commercial interiors who provided the flooring and Star Refrigeration who will be installing the fridges. Well done team and also good to catch up briefly with Bev Crighton Laura Parry 👩💻 Branding and Design Rebecca Brown and many others I didn’t get the chance to say hello to.
