At the British Parliament UK House of Lords this week where a debate on "The Future of Computer Games" took place. TLDR: - Regulatory Clarity Needed - Games Develop Critical Skills - Emerging Tech Expanding Accessibility - Focus on Gender - Differently-abled Accessibility - Gaming Bridges Divides - Virtual Economies Booming - Education Curriculum Lacking Highlighting: Games have evolved into a unique medium that can educate and develop critical skills like strategic thinking, decision-making, and spatial awareness. VR, blockchain and sports-tech games are unlocking new inclusive capabilities and empowering neurodiverse audiences. Ensuring gaming accessibility for women and differently-abled groups enables more empowerment. Thoughtful gaming equips life skills while promoting unity across gender, background and abilities. Virtual worlds generate GDP exceeding some countries. In-game assets and new revenue streams are emerging via blockchain. Despite developing skills like engineering, coordination and planning, gaming is not integrated into most curriculums. Speakers called for legislative bodies to provide regulatory clarity to support ethical innovation in web3, gaming and metaverse spaces. This week we hosted our annual parliamentary reception in partnership with Digital Frontier, ahead of their highly anticipated launch 🚀 The evening brought together over 150 representatives from politics and industry for a brilliant night of networking. Our speaker line-up included Bim Afolami MP, the City Minister, and Lord Iain McNicol, The Labour Party's Shadow Spokesperson for Business and Trade. Both expressed their gratitude towards UK Cryptoasset Business Council (UKCBC) for our work in providing an educational platform for politicians and policy makers, and for our focus on supporting innovation, growth, and consumer protection. 2024 will be an incredibly busy year for the industry and we are looking forward to playing a leading role supporting users, investors, and businesses – fostering innovation, consumer protection and growth through effective policy.
