UK Budget October 2024: Key Takeaways for Recruitment & Staffing Chancellor Rachel Reeves has delivered the Autumn Budget with significant implications for hiring and employment. Here are the key points UK recruiters should be aware of: 1. Employer NI contributions likely to increase by 1-2%, potentially impacting hiring budgets. 2. New Employment Rights Bill to introduce enhanced worker protections and rights from day one of employment. 3. Skills and training initiatives announced, including reforms to the Apprenticeship Levy. 4. £240 million "Getting Britain Working" package launched to support disabled people and long-term sick back into work. 5. Measures to boost youth employment and apprenticeships expected. 6. Potential crackdown on salary sacrifice schemes to protect NI revenue. 7. Focus on encouraging business investment and innovation to drive growth and job creation. 8. Temporary staffing demand may increase as employers seek flexibility amid economic uncertainty. 9. The legal minimum wage for over 21's to rise from £11.44 to £12.21 per hour from April. The Budget aims to balance public finances while supporting employment growth. Recruiters should prepare for potential shifts in hiring patterns and skills demands as businesses adapt to new policies. #UKBudget2024 #Recruitment #EmploymentTrends

One of our Founders Andrew Bell – CEO of Hanami International was diagnosed with ADHD over a decade ago – at almost exactly the same time we invested in him and his business partner, Matt Harrison to establish their recruitment business. Here Andy and our Chairman James Caan CBE discuss Neurodiversity within business and recruitment. What is it? How many people does it affect? What can we learn going forward?
I’m pleased to announce the launch of No Two Brains (Are the Same)! 🚀 I've been wanting to do this podcast for a while and have finally got around to doing it, sharing my experience of being a neurodiverse business owner. Over 10 years ago I was diagnosed with ADHD, which was around the same time James Caan CBE invested in myself and my business partner Matt Harrison to set up Hanami International. I’ve often been hesitant to share the fact I suffer with ADHD, sometimes for fear of being judged, and I’m sure many others who have neurodiverse conditions have often felt the same, especially in more senior positions. This led me to want to talk more openly about it, which in turn formed the idea of producing a podcast and asking James Caan CBE what it was like to work with a neurodiverse CEO. In the podcast we cover what neurodiversity is? How many people does it affect? And what can we learn about working with people who are neurodiverse? Feel free to take a listen on Spotify: https://lnkd.in/eKUY6UuU Or Amazon: https://lnkd.in/eSucrFHt I'm interested to hear your thoughts and experiences of neurodiversity in the workplace. Together, I’d like to challenge traditional thinking and explore how we can better support neurodiverse talent. #Neurodiversity #Leadership #InclusiveWorkplaces #HanamiInternational

What a fantastic journey Danny Jillions. We wish you all the very best of luck with your new venture in property and have no doubt you will excel. We'll be supporting Alison Watkis-Octave every step of the way in leading Clarus Education into their next exciting chapter.
After 18 incredible years in recruitment, the time has come for me to hang up my recruitment hat and dive into a new adventure—property! It’s been a long-held passion of mine, and the moment feels right to take the plunge and see where this next chapter takes me. My recruitment journey started at Hays, and one of my proudest achievements is co-founding Clarus Education alongside Alison Watkis-Octave back in 2015 😊 Watching the business grow and being part of building an exceptional team has been an absolute privilege. Yes, it’s been hard work sometimes, but it’s also been so much fun! I can honestly say in all my years in recruitment the team at Clarus Education are the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. The dedication, kindness, and professionalism the team show to candidates and clients—treating them as they like to be treated—is something that fills me with pride. As my time comes to an end, I know the outlook for Clarus is bright, especially with Alison at the helm. She’s an amazing friend and a fearless leader who has been a driving force in building Clarus into what it is today. Her passion, resilience, and commitment to the business, our team, and our core values is unwavering. From day one, Alison’s leadership has ensured that Clarus thrived, and there’s no one I trust more to fully take the reins as I step back. The future of the business is in very capable hands. While I’m stepping away from the day-to-day, you haven’t seen the last of me yet—I’ll still be a shareholder, cheering everyone on from the side-lines. I’d like to extend a massive thank you to Recruitment Entrepreneur - Greg Hollis, James Caan CBE, Abid Hamid, Angus McDowell, and the whole RE team - for their invaluable support over the years. Clarus Education wouldn't be the success it is today without RE’s partnership and expert guidance. Also, a big shout-out to all the MDs and CEOs in the RE portfolio—it’s been an absolute pleasure working with you all, and I wish you every success for the future. Thanks for everything guys! Danny

OneUp Sales has released its H1 report on trends across 311 recruitment businesses. The first half of 2024 showed both challenges and opportunities in recruitment. Contract work demand has continued to outpace permanent roles, with recruiters seeing stronger contract placements and a steady increase in booked revenue. Permanent roles remain stable but have not experienced their usual early-year spike. Economic uncertainty persists, but businesses are adapting by improving efficiency and leveraging technology. As we move forward to the end of the year, staying agile and focusing on the right metrics will be crucial for sustained success.
