A group of campaigners has written to parliament urging the government to update the Equality Act 2010 to make Afro hair a protected characteristic. The World Afro Day campaign, which includes Labour MP Paulette Hamilton and former Spice Girl Mel B, sent a letter signed by 100 campaigners and supporters. The letter argues that the “omission of hair as a protected characteristic from the law has facilitated everyday discrimination and the normalisation of Afro hair as inferior in every sphere of life”. We want to know your thoughts on this. Please let us know below 💭👇 https://bit.ly/47puYc8 #AfroHair #ProtectedCharacteristics #EqualityAct #WorldAfroDay

Our Chairman and CEO James Reed CBE spoke to Sky News today about the latest Reed.co.uk data. To what extent is your organisation hesitant to recruit, and how is this impacting your workforce? #ImprovingLivesThroughWork #Since1960 #LifeAtReed #Hiring
Spoke to Sky News about the latest Reed.co.uk jobs data earlier… Here are the headlines, in August: Wages rose 4% Applications rose 25% Vacancies fell 28% This follows the ONS data published earlier today which reported that vacancies had declined for an imprecedented 26th period in a row. There is a danger that we may be witnessing a slow motion car crash here in the labour market. The 28% decline in vacancies year on year for August is significant; employer confidence has clearly taken a knock. Ongoing uncertainty around new regulations, potential new taxes and the outlook for the economy has acted as a brake on hiring. Ideology can be kryptonite for enterprise, so I hope this situation is taken as seriously as it deserves to be. And please don’t shoot the messenger! #lovemondays #lifeatreed #improvinglivesthroughwork #PhilCo #since1960 #ONS #jobstats #recruitment

Content warning: suicide. It's World Suicide Prevention Day today! We recently asked The Listening Place’s Founder and CEO, Sarah Anderson CBE for her advice for employers on how to approach the subject of suicide in employees to help prevent someone from taking their life. Key points to consider: - Normalise honest conversations: "how are you really?" - Be curious and ask open questions: if you think someone is suicidal, "you need to ask them". - Common mistakes to avoid: listening to reply rather than to understand. - The impact on the listener: "if the upset stays with you, seek help." - Leadership and company culture: "mental health is as significant as physical health." Find out more from Sarah on how to have meaningful conversations and offer support to suicidal employees: https://bit.ly/3WCaeuC #WorldSuicidePreventionDay #MentalHealth #Wellbeing #Suicide
