Editing nonfiction is more than polishing facts—it’s about crafting a narrative that highlights the author’s expertise while keeping readers hooked 🎣 🤔 How do you do that? Our Reedsy nonfiction experts, Lisa Howard and Amber Hatch, share some 'real' impactful editing tips: 📌 Understand your author’s perspective: Nonfiction authors are typically professionals writing about their expertise or life experiences. It’s important to understand their point of view to help them effectively organize and communicate their ideas on the page. 📌 Focus on reader takeaways: Nonfiction readers want value—something they can apply to their own lives. Whether it’s advice, life lessons, or practical tips, always ask, "What’s in it for the reader?" 📌 Help establish the author’s voice and authority: Readers need to trust the author. A strong, relatable voice builds that trust. Encourage your authors to speak directly to their readers, balancing expertise with approachability. 📌 Create a logical structure: Avoid jumps in reasoning, and make sure every point builds toward the book’s core message. 📌 Write the cover summary early: Writing the cover summary early helps authors clarify their thinking and shows if they truly grasp the core of their material. If they struggle with this, more coaching or developmental editing may be needed. 👉 Want more tips? Check out the full Reedsy Live webinar with Lisa and Amber, where they explore this very real topic even further! - https://lnkd.in/ga8tGhq7 👉 Join Lisa and Amber as one of Reedsy's expert editors? - https://lnkd.in/g3pYcdBH
