🗣 Really enjoyed chairing yesterday’s final session at our annual conference, #RNISmartEnergy – In Conversation with Association CEOs. Great to get the chance to put questions to Noel Cunniffe (CEO, Wind Energy Ireland), Dan McGrail (CEO, RenewableUK) and my boss (!) Steven Agnew (Director, RenewableNI) as we talked about how we can strengthen North-South and East-West collaboration to meet 2030 targets, electrify and decarbonise our economies, deliver economic growth, energy security and unlock consumer savings. 💡 Some key takeaways: 🤝 Delivering a net zero energy system will require more ambitious collaboration across these Islands. It’s important to share learnings, both good and bad. NI can learn from the more mature UK offshore market, the electricity support schemes in both ROI and GB, and maximise established relationships with key stakeholders. ⭐ The new Labour Government has revitalised the UK renewable industry bringing a sense of optimism and buoyancy. Key among many positive clean energy policy developments is the establishment of GB Energy, and Northern Ireland must ensure it secures its share of the opportunities and funding this will offer. 💸 Despite significant global challenges (inflation, constrained supply chains to name but a few), the UK and Ireland do remain competitive investment locations. By accelerating supply chain investment and enhancing collaboration with the EU to resolve outstanding post-Brexit energy issues, the UK and ROI can retain leadership in the global renewables' market. 👏 The renewable industry has done a good job to date in telling a compelling energy transition story and securing public buy-in. Most recent research and polling indicate strong public backing for windfarms in people’s local areas and politicians often underestimate this support. Renewable applications face no more objections than other infrastructure projects. Continued work to maximise benefits and innovation for local communities is key. #RNISmartEnergy RenewableNI RenewableUK Wind Energy Ireland
📢 CEOs panel: Wrapping up Smart Energy 2024, Laoiseach Scullion speaks to the CEOs of RenewableUK, RenewableNI and Wind Energy Ireland Dan McGrail, Steven Agnew and Noel Cunniffe share their thoughts on how our industry can work together to champion progress across the isles. It’s been a busy few weeks! Last week I was in London at the Global Offshore Wind Awards celebrating the work being done across the sector. Congratulations to the winners and RenewableUK for a brilliant event. This week it was hard hats and hi-vis on a team visit to the Ardersier Energy Transition Facility. Really incredible to see the investment being made to the 450-acre site and hear about its future ambitions. Thanks to the Haventus team for having us! #renewables #offshorewind #supplychain

Following publication of the Offshore Wind Industry Council's latest report earlier this week, read the thoughts of OWIC's Delivery Lead for Transmission, Peter McCrory, on how to better deliver coordinated offshore grid ⚡ The report - 'Delivering the shared offshore network: OWIC recommendations for enabling offshore grid coordination' - outlines a number of recommendations to accelerate the coordination of regulatory and commercial models, to ensure it does not contribute to delays in development of the affected Offshore Wind Farms: 📒 https://lnkd.in/eamsCsaz https://lnkd.in/ez3PMdnk
