"Companies have to demonstrate to their investors and customers their understanding and preparedness of all these [climate] risks in order to avoid reputational damages," said Mr. C.F. Wong, Commissioner for Climate Change in the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong , during his keynote speech at the BEC EnviroSeries Conference. Throughout the early 2020's we have seen a flurry of goal setting, with many companies and governments setting mid to long-term emissions goals. But critical to reaching these goals is creating transparency around where companies are on their sustainability pathway. Currently Hong Kong leads the way but why? New standards like the International Sustainability Standards Board, created in 2021 and backed by the G7 and G20, have been working to create robust but effective reporting standards that will empower investors. Investors, incorporating ESG into their analysis, are using this information to assess the regulatory and climate-change preparedness and mitigation risks associated with their investments. Hong Kong, the only region to attain good reach (one level above significant reach and over 50% disclosure) has been able to do so with a mixture of regulatory pressure and dedicated leadership. The Hong Kong exchange recently set the requirement for IFRS climate disclosure of all companies listed on the exchange. Additionally with a dedicated Office of Climate Change & Carbon Neutrality and climate goals that are currently more ambitious than the mainland, Hong Kong has been demonstrating a strong commitment. What can businesses elsewhere take away from this, however? In the US, climate disclosure was moderate as of 2022. As of March this year, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) adopted the Enhancement and Standardization of Climate-Related Disclosures for Investors rule. "Large public companies will need to start reporting their financial exposure to climate-related risks such as severe weather events by 2025. They will have until 2026 to begin disclosing their emissions. " - Washington Post. Companies will have to move quickly to implement standards. For investors and consumers alike, this is a beneficial period, as we are better able to scrutinize brands on their environmental credentials, preparedness and progress. We are going through a decade of increased transparency due to regulatory pressure. Brands that get ahead of the wave can take advantage of the reputational benefits and as Mr. Wong points out, avoid the reputational cost of complacency. Progress is being made on sustainable aviation fuels that is worth celebrating, but there is still a long road ahead... "When blended with petroleum jet fuel, SAF meets the same fuel quality specification as petroleum jet fuel (ASTM D1655) and can be used in existing aircraft and refuelling infrastructure. There is one domestic production facility and an increase in imports from an international producer. Multiple plants are under construction and development. The fuel is used primarily in California because of economic benefits provided under the Low Carbon Fuel Standard. The U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Energy, and Transportation announced the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge to meet the goals for a 50% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and for SAF to supply 100% aviation fuel demand by 2050. " - EPA The global picture is similar, with global SAF production expected to triple in 2024. Greater progress is still needed however as IATA’s Director General Willie Walsh explains, "The doubling of SAF production in 2023 was encouraging as is the expected tripling of production expected in 2024. But even with that impressive growth, SAF as a portion of all renewable fuel production will only grow from 3% this year to 6% in 2024. This allocation limits SAF supply and keeps prices high. Aviation needs between 25% and 30% of renewable fuel production capacity for SAF. At those levels aviation will be on the trajectory needed to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050." sources: https://buff.ly/48eqW6T https://buff.ly/3U97thY. #sustainability #sustainableaviation #saf ##NetZero2050 #climateaction #RenewableFuels

We wanted to find out how the conversation has changed around AI in the news and on social media from the launch of ChatGPT to today. Here is what we found... End of 2022 Initially we have the introduction of a new technology, but the conversation is confined to technology and business circles. The conversation at this time is about the development of the technology and the solutions it could provide for business. End of 2023 The conversation shifts to mass media and the public on social media. All are speculating on the future impact of this technology. AI becomes a polarizing subject with optimism of an AI-energized economy and innovation on one hand and apocalyptic visions and job losses on the other. People are also discovering how to use AI during this time. There is speculation on who the big players will be as Google and Microsoft fast-track AI programs to catch up. Today The greatest hopes and fears for AI have become tempered. NLP Tools and other forms of AI-generated content becoming a part of the daily tools of workers and general population. The conversation shifts to how to use these tools and get the most out of them. Concerns persist around deep fakes and the use of AI to generate and spread misinformation. There is concern and discussion that AI will reduce creativity and the value of human created writing and art. As AI-generated content fills the internet there is concern that AI will be retraining itself on AI-generated data leading to a decline in quality and homogenization of its output. #AI #artificalintelligence #future #techtrends

Tech and cybersecurity skills are in demand among Internal Audit departments as they increasingly relied on external support this year to close gaps. "Between 2021 and 2024, Internal Audit departments have experienced a noticeable 15% increase in shortfalls in the necessary capabilities to meet their company’s requirements, along with a misalignment of skills relative to their set priorities. In response to this escalation, leaders have increasingly leveraged internal business resources to meet audit priorities, showing an 18% rise, and have relied more on external resources for support, with a 26% annual increase." We had the pleasure of working with Jefferson Wells USA on the research behind their 2024 Internal Audit Priorities Survey Report. The Jefferson Wells’ 2024 Internal Audit Priorities survey reveals that while cybersecurity remains the top risk, the rise in the usage of Generative AI tools is escalating in risk priority for IA leaders and audit committees. Despite this, only 26% of organizations have fully integrated Generative AI standards into their governance framework, indicating a need for more comprehensive controls. It was a pleasure collaborating on this research with Jefferson Wells USA. "Companies' global hiring intentions are expected to hold steady in the fourth quarter of 2024, even though the outlook for the quarter ahead was weaker than the final quarter of 2023, ManpowerGroup's Employment Outlook Survey showed. Employers in India at 37%, followed by Costa Rica at 36% and the United States at 34%, reported the strongest hiring plans, while Argentina at 4% and Israel at 8% had the weakest outlooks." - Reuters You can read more about our work on the research behind ManpowerGroup's Employment Outlook Survey in Divya Chowdhury's latest Reuters article. https://buff.ly/3XKJeZQ #MEOS #manpowergroup #employment #hiring #jobsearch #HR

ESOMAR 2024, you were just great. What I picked up: 📢 Speaking in front of hundreds of people is terrifying, but addictive (thanks Adrian for the tips). For anyone interested, I'll soon be posting my full slides on how to use GenAI to solve problems. 🤖 Machine learning, GenAI and Synthetic data are already providing real, sizable value 🫸 I'm proud, excited, and honestly quite surprised at how much our industry is pushing the world forward 🧪 Experimenting, failing, then learning will teach you way more than any paper, talk, or podcast ever will 😬 Very little about what panel companies are fixing big data quality problems - opening the door for other collection methods 👨 Having a teammate at these events to split sessions, support, and debrief with each evening is invaluable, thanks David 👶 The young people in our companies are among the best (Tim, Tim, Jaimie, Vanessa, Theodoros, Brian), it was an absolute pleasure to meet you all and I can't wait to watch where you go.
