🚨 The government announced £5 billion cuts in a planned reform of the social security system this afternoon. We are incredibly concerned that these reforms could trigger hardship and suffering for those of us severely affected by mental illness. There’s a lot of detail to analyse. We promise to keep you updated in the coming days.

🚨 While the government considers cuts to the benefits system, over 1.5 million people are waiting for mental health support. Reducing waiting times will do much more to help people than benefit cuts will. If you agree, use our template to email your MP today 👉 https://bit.ly/3Dm1Uba

🗣️ "We’re keenly following the passage of the Mental Health Bill through Parliament. It’s clear that its success will rely on supported housing and robust, responsive and joined up neighbourhood mental health services." We know how vital high-quality supported housing can be for people severely affected by mental illness. Read our guest blog for the National Housing Federation here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eGbvVS34
Delighted to be asked by the National Housing Federation to author this piece responding to their important recent publication 'Finding a safe home after hospital', which demonstrates the keen relationship between hospital discharge and the availability of high quality supported housing for those living with a mental illness. https://lnkd.in/eApNScYv The NHF's findings echo many of those from our work at Rethink Mental Illness. It is clear that the government needs to utilise the opportunities before us - from the Ten Year Health Plan to the National Housing Strategy - to deliver a strong, joined-up policy and strategy across housing, health, social care and social security, for the funding and delivery of high quality supported housing.

💬 There is a lot of noise around changes to the benefits system right now. Social security is essential for many people living with mental illness. Having access to a fair and compassionate welfare system is something we will always fight for. If you agree, join us. Become a campaigner today 👉 www.rethink.org/campaigner
