It's almost like externalities aren't external after all 🤔 To stop climate being an externality we need to change our economic system.

"A serious rethink of our economic system is no longer optional, but essential"* Dame Fiona Reynolds, member of the Dasgupta Review Advisory Panel In 2021, the UK Treasury commissioned and published an independent, global report on the Economics of Biodiversity: The Dasgupta Review. The Review showed how mainstream economics ignores the true value of nature to the economy and called for changes in how we think, act and measure economic success, to protect and enhance our prosperity and the natural world. 🔹 The Dasgupta Review found that, while UK produced capital like infrastructure and manufactured goods, grew 20% between 1990 and 2014, natural capital shrank by 30%. 🔹 If this trend continues, the Green Finance Institute suggests UK GDP could fall by 6% by the 2030s. Despite compelling evidence, progress implementing the Review's recommendations has been slow. This week, Green Alliance launched: "The nature of our economy: implementing the Dasgupta Review" - a new report setting out the practical steps needed to turn the Review's findings into action. It provides actionable proposals across three areas: 1. the macroeconomy: measuring economic growth, assessing the public finances and monetary policy; 2. the microeconomy: business investment in protecting nature and the role of the National Wealth Fund in encouraging this; 3. political reforms: a Commissioner for Future Generations, using citizens’ assemblies and clearer metrics on the state of nature. 📖 Read the full report: "The nature of the economy: implementing the Dasgupta Review" - https://lnkd.in/e92m48WF authored by Steve Coulter, William Carr, Sophia Greacen, Stuart Dossett, Partha Mulay and Heather Plumpton, including *Foreword from Dame Fiona Reynolds 📖 Read the original 2021 Dasgupta Review, led by the eminent economist Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta here: https://lnkd.in/dgDx9D7 Partners for a New Economy supports Green Alliance in their work to translate the findings of the Dasgupta Review into practical policies.

[TR] Herkese selamlar! [ENG] Hello World! Let's assume! What would be happened, if 3 Econ Nobel Winners and 4 Consultancy Agencies walk into the bar? Last week, we tried to find an answer to this question with a satisfied and thought-provoking conversation along with Surbhi Kesar and Rosie Collington. Therefore, we examined the 'AJR Theory' and the possible impacts of 'consulting firms' in the context of development strategies, with their valuable works. You can watch this conversation on Rethinking Economics YouTube channel or with the link below. Enjoy watching!

Rethinking Economics: A Great Visit to Rethinking Economics Groups Within Zambia We were happy to visit some of Rethinking Economics Groups in Zambia . We met with student groups from Rockview University, Cavendish University, Mulungushi University, Copperbelt University, and the University of Zambia. These groups are part of a network called Rethinking Economics. Our visit was about "Organising For Success and Decolonising the Discipline of Economics." We talked to students, and group leaders about how economics is taught and practised. We wanted to know how we can make economics more fair, sustainable, and inclusive, especially serving people and planet - how hegemonic is the discipline is. This visit was supported by Rethinking Economics . We learned that the way economics is taught can be changed to better understand Zambia's economic problems. We were impressed by the students' passion for creating a fairer economy. Our visit was a success. We're grateful to have met these talented students. We look forward to supporting Rethinking Economics in Zambia and beyond. Important Points: - Rethinking Economics groups in Zambia are making a difference in creating a fairer economy. - Changing the way economics is taught is important for understanding economic problems in Zambia. - The students we met are inspiring and give us hope for a better future. Get Involved: If you want to learn more about Rethinking Economics or join a local group, please contact us on national.network.zm@rethinkeconomics.org. Top econ journals are failing us when it comes to even mentioning climate breakdown. A new report from Economists for Future shows just how little attention they give it: https://bit.ly/4bmeZ0D
