We are delighted to let you know that we have recently been informed by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council that on 12 March, the Merthyr Planning Committee will meet to vote on whether to approve our Rhydycar West planning application. This will be a major milestone in our journey to bring Rhydycar West to life. As we mentioned in a previous update, we have already received feedback from all Welsh Government and other Statutory Consultees including: Natural Resources Wales (NRW), Cadw, GGAT, The Coal Authority, Dwr Cymru, Fire & Rescue, Welsh Government Highways and the Police who have reviewed and considered our planning application. There are no objections to our planning application from the Welsh Government and Statutory Consultees. This is a strong and clear endorsement of the quality, thoroughness and approvability of our proposals and is the outcome of many years of engagement and cooperation with Welsh Government and statutory consultees. We are now waiting for the Merthyr Planning Department’s report on our application which will be released prior to 12 March. We hope that the report reflects the position of Welsh Government and Statutory Consultees and recognises the enormous positive local, regional, social and economic impact as well as the job opportunities Rhydycar West will create. This has been widely recognised in the letters of support we have received from Merthyr Council and government, businesses and people across South Wales. We are very grateful for the support we have received from them and from you and ask for your continued support in the run up to 12 March – thank you!

Welsh Government hopes the completion of the A465 will bring greater prosperity to the region, that ‘has been left behind since the closure of the mines’. Rhydycar West will ensure that the 2 billion investment and 23 years of road works are worthwhile. World Adventure Day We are so lucky in Merthyr to have a wealth of adventurous activities on our doorstep, making the region a popular destination for thrill seekers. Like you, we have been waiting for essential feedback and comments on the application. We have finally received certain feedback from the Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council (MTCBC) Planning Department which we had been waiting on for months. We will now be working as quickly as we can to achieve a planning decision and have requested further meetings with MTCBC to expedite matters. The earliest we will receive the planning decision is after the MTCBC summer recess.
