We're spotlighting trailblazing built environment professionals and asking what #FreeToBeMe means to them. "In the transport and built environment sectors, representation of protected groups at leadership level remains low and therefore the collective experience of large sections of community is not considered in decision making. Occasions like #SouthAsianHeritageMonth are therefore a useful reminder about the work that still needs to be undertaken to create an inclusive and equitable profession." - Rupali Sharma-Patel, RIBA FRSA, Principal Engineering Leader for Built Environment at Transport for London ➡️ Find out more about Rupali https://ow.ly/IMxQ50T2ReV

As part of South Asian Heritage Month, we're spotlighting trailblazing built environment professionals and asking what #FreeToBeMe means to them. "'Free to be me' aligns with a broader need within our communities to embrace and celebrate diversity. Historically, the field has been dominated by certain demographics, often overlooking the rich contributions of those from varied backgrounds. In teaching and professional practice, I advocate for the exploration of personal narratives and cultural contexts, as I have done, urging young people to draw inspiration from their own experiences and backgrounds. This not only reinforces their own design practice but also challenges the homogeneity too often found in architectural discourse. By creating an environment where individuality is valued and mutual respect is emphasised, we can help build confidence for others’ professional journeys." - Dhruv Gulabchande, Associate Director at HFM Architects and Founder and Director at Narrative Practice. ➡️ Find out more about Dhruv: https://ow.ly/CY6A50T2QHG #SouthAsianHeritageMonth #SAHM

How can we create a more inclusive and equitable future in architecture? That is the question architects, historians, and academics will discuss at our full-day Decolonising Architecture Symposium at RIBA's London headquarters, 66 Portland Place. Our symposium will provide a space to discuss and share strategies for transforming architectural practices and narratives to reflect more inclusive, equitable, and culturally sensitive approaches. From keynote addresses and panel discussions, to workshops and building tours, we'll explore the intersections of architecture, colonial history, and decolonisation efforts. 📅 19 September, 10am to 6pm 📍 RIBA, London 🎟️ Reserve your place: https://ow.ly/wc0P50SYrAb
