“I’m always trying to find better ways to use our data to solve complex problems.” 📝 When we recorded this video Claudia was a researcher in our Next Generation Technology team. Now, she's AI Projects Lead in Data & Analytics within Digital Products, showcasing just where a career in Rio can take you. 💻 Through the use of data-driven technology, like our surface mining digital twin, Claudia helps to make our peoples' jobs safer. Digital twins are virtual replicas of our mines, equipment and processes. 🐶 Also a beagle owner and Star Wars enthusiast, Claudia's favourite character is one of the most polarising figures in cinematic history – Ja Ja Binks, whose floppy ears remind her of her dog's. #FindingBetterWays

If a picture is worth a thousand words, a new, interactive, 3D-printed mapping innovation is worth much more. 🗺️ Projection Augmented Landscape Models, or simply PALM, is exactly that. The models consist of high-resolution, 3D-printed base tiles, which piece together to form a model of a site's terrain. "Everyone can gather round the table and look at the model from all angles, touch the landscape, point to specific areas and chat about the things that interest them," Bernie, Winu's Manager for Communities and Social Performance, said. #FindingBetterWays

🌿 Mount Rosser in Jamaica – a former bauxite residue or ‘red mud’ disposal site – has been transformed into a thriving ecosystem thanks to clever re-engineering and innovative soil remediation. 🐦 42 species of birds have been spotted in the area, including 10 bird species that are unique to Jamaica, demonstrating that ‘red mud’ can be coaxed over time to bring once-barren land back to life. 📖 Discover the story in the book, 102 things to do with a hole in the ground, from the Eden Project, showcasing the world’s best examples of mines being transformed to give habitats and communities around them new futures. #MineClosure #FindingBetterWays

We're working with Traditional Owners and local Aboriginal people to rehabilitate mined land with culturally significant species of native plants. At our Weipa operations, in Far North Queensland Australia, we mark each rehabilitated section with the year it was replanted, showing a changing approach to rehabilitation over the decades.
