Mental Health Awareness Month is coming to an end but that doesn’t mean you should stop focusing on yours. Meet Amina and her story, always remember you’re not alone🤝🏽

After taking our young people to the theatre to see for 'Black boys who considered suicide when the hue gets too heavy', a few weeks ago. We thought it was important to take some of our parents and volunteers. Everyone, regardless of race, needs to watch this outstanding production. The message below from a parent is so beautiful and sums up why we do what we do. Dearest Joyclen, thank you for taking us to watch such an amazing, eye-opening, and heartfelt show. Not only did we enjoy it, but It also made me see some of the internal struggles my boys go through unable to talk about them. Once again, I have learnt from you, making me a better mother to communicate with my boys. Some hard topics are difficult to discuss, but reminding them that I am here will be more than enough. Thank you, my love. ♥️ God bless you and your beloved team always. Xx We love it when parents are open to learning and getting support. There's not a manual to parenting. Our young men/boys circles are mental health sessions dedicated to supporting the development and growth of all who attend. It’s important that we normalise talking about mental well-being, especially amongst men and boys. Young people have to navigate many challenges and being a Black young person has even further complexities. We have seen a huge difference in how the young men and boys communicate with their peers, families and at school/college. They have been given the opportunity to talk through their emotions, see things from other perspectives and challenge their thought processes. We have won an award for these sessions and our aim is to develop them further so even more young boys and men can take part. We also run a young women’s circle in the same model and are seeing amazing progress from those who attend. Big thank you Gucci ChangeMakersLondon who make these sessions possible. Big thanks The Arthouse for giving us the space to hold these sessions.

Going to see “For the black boys that considered suicide when the hue gets heavy” was an amazing experience for our young people. Here’s what one had to say: “The play was such an eye-opener for the different experiences that black boys can relate to. I love the use of humour. It didn’t take away from the deep meaning educating the viewer of the load and challenges young black boys have to navigate, not just in society but also within their families. I’m so happy that we were able to go and watch it with the Rise family. Young leader at Rise.365
