Founded by Skye Kelly-Barrett, Roar is a unique boutique agency representing a carefully curated selection of the most talented artists, both established and emerging, within the creative industry. Having worked as an Art Director and Curator for Skull & Heart, she came to realise that there was a space in the market for an artist agency that promoted the art and artists within the New Contemporary art field, focussing on alternative & low-brow artists, whilst also creating a safe space for artists to seek advice on their careers. At Roar, we pride ourselves on our relationship with our artists, working as both an agent and manager to help nurture both the artists’ creative career, and their personal development. We want to make sure all of our artists are reaching their potential, progressing both personally and professionally along the way. One of the things I try to do with Roar Art & Illustration Agency is think about my own experience of being with an agency (past life as a model sometimes pops up as a positive haha) and what I could use to impact the way we do things here in a more positive way - Although a different industry, there is still so much crossover within the fashion and art/illustration world, it just makes sense, and thankfully I do not need to ask our artists their measurements! 😂 Like artists, the holy grail of any model is their book, (their model portfolio) but the thing I always felt was the MOST important to me was the comp card; a piece of card that has your most important info in one place. Even today when things are so digital and portfolio’s are on iPads, you can be certain that printed comp cards will be stuffed into a bag somewhere to leave with the client you've just met. This little bit of information is the way you remind that person who you are, what you can do and how to contact you in a few days and after they have met with / seen 100 other people, it's the ultimate business card. We introduced artist comp cards to our business recently as a way to showcase specific artists to clients rather than overloading them with information (sometimes a full roster portfolio is a lot of visual info all at once!), to help with highlighting specific styles, and more generally allowing clients to check in and download individual comp cards for the artists that they want to keep on file for current or future projects. A win, win for everyone. To celebrate the collaboration with Wizards of the Coast DUNGEONS & DRAGONS for Royal Mail with a selection of stamps, our friends at Common Curiosity commissioned Dan Mumford to create a one of a kind, limited edition pack design to keep your info booklet and stamps in! Genuinely one of the coolest projects we have been a part of, and seeing Dan's work used so perfectly was such an amazing thing to see!
