Build unstoppable momentum

About us

Roda uses the power of the flywheel effect to help leaders build unstoppable momentum in their business to achieve their most important goals. It helps to bridge the gap between vision and results. An uncomfortable truth for leaders is that most strategies fail. Not because the plan is wrong, but because it is executed poorly. In fact, HBR studies show that 60-90% of strategies miss their main goals. This is often due to problems like misaligned teams, unclear priorities, and lack of accountability. Roda helps teams overcome these challenges by making it easy to track goals, optimise performance, and work together better. Our software platform helps ensure everyone is aligned and focused on delivering the right outcomes. Roda’s innovative flywheel approach breaks your strategy down into repeatable steps, helping teams build momentum and continually improve. Teams with aligned goals and streamlined execution can achieve up to a 25% increase in productivity, which translates into significant performance gains and less wasted effort. Roda is now being used by a wide range of ambitious organisations to turbocharge their strategy and build unstoppable momentum.

Are you persisting in your approach to strategy simply because "that's how it's always been done"? Are you willing to challenge the orthodoxy and embrace a more flexible, data-driven approach, better suited to dealing with the fast-changing business context in which we operate? As someone who's been in the trenches of strategy execution for over a decade, I've seen firsthand the pitfalls of rigid, long-term planning that is static by design. In my experience, organisations that can shift to a more agile approach see remarkable improvements in their ability to execute and achieve their goals. I believe it's essential for navigating the complexities of today's business landscape.  Strategy is a system and should be treated as such by leaders. It's not a one-off, or even annual, process, but an ongoing activity that puts learning and adaptation at the heart of how you operate and grow. This means regularly challenging and testing key assumptions, sensing and learning from your customers and market, testing new ideas, and building the right feedback loops within your business to improve and optimise relentlessly. Surely it's time to ditch the five-year plan and shift towards a more agile and data-driven approach to strategy. If you want to learn how this approach works in practice, and how it can benefit your business, drop me a DM. #strategy #flywheel #leadership

Is your business focused enough? Are you juggling too many priorities? As a strategy consultant, I've seen firsthand the pitfalls of trying to do it all. Ruthless focus on just a few key priorities is a mark of clear leadership and strategy. It's not about having a laundry list of objectives, but rather honing in on a few key priorities and executing them with consistency and precision. I remember a consulting engagement with a major organisation which started with the CEO proudly declaring they had 12 priorities—twelve! Needless to say, it was a mess. Little progress was being made on any of the 'priorities'. The lack of focus gave licence to the leadership team to dodge the difficult challenges, as they could always connect any project to a 'priority' in the CEO's list. You simply can't have that many priorities and expect effective execution. We often praise multitasking and endless to-do lists in our fast-paced business world, but this doesn't work when it comes to driving repeatable success. What if the key to successful strategy execution is doing less, but doing it better? I challenge you: are you brave enough to strip down your priorities to just a few? Because that's what true leadership demands. It's not easy, but it's necessary for real success. I'm curious to hear your thoughts. Do you believe fewer priorities lead to a better strategy and execution? How have you gone about doing that in your organisation? What was the impact? #priorities #strategy #execution

When was the last time you celebrated 'killing' a new feature? Or walking away from an opportunity? No, it's not what you think! Forget sinister vibes—we’re talking about innovation and agility in the tech world. Doing less, but doing it better. It’s undisputed that technological change is driving ever more options and opportunities, and we're feeling that pressure at Roda. Everywhere we look we can see new ways to deploy and develop our platform to help organisations build momentum. But...we're an early-stage company. We have limited time and limited resources. We simply can't do all the things we may like to. So we are trying to practice what we preach and be agile. That means saying no to things that don't take us where we want to go as quickly as possible. Recently we 'killed' a new feature we were exploring. Whilst the feature was exciting, it would be a lot more complex and time-consuming than we originally thought. For now, we just had to say no. Rather than see that as a problem, or get frustrated, we celebrated the fact that we could maintain focus on our priorities. How did we celebrate? With coffee and cannolis all around. Failure never tasted so good. #strategy #OrganisationalAgility #Innovation #Adaptability

Our co-founder, Mark Shields, has learned a vast amount from working abroad in places like India and Zimbabwe. In business terms, people might categorise this as "cultural sensitivity training," but what he truly gained was a realisation that you can only successfully work in other countries by actively engaging with and stepping into a culture with an open mind. In India, one of the most powerful things he did leading a UK team working with Indian colleagues was agreeing that an hour a day was set aside for lunch, where they would sit together and share food. This simple step went further in building positive relationships than any off-site, and there was the added benefit of trying beautiful food from the different cultures represented across the team. It’s more than just knowing the dos and don'ts; it's about empathy and connection, which are vital in business. In any organisation, people are undoubtedly the most crucial asset. That’s why, when our team meets, we don’t dive straight into the data or switch to full-on founder mode. Instead, we start by talking about our families, weekend plans, or the latest podcast episodes we’re hooked on. It’s about creating genuine connections. It’s about building trust, fostering understanding, and crafting a space where real collaboration thrives. And let’s be honest—those in-person moments matter more than ever in a world where remote work dominates. What experiences changed your perspective? And how do you kick off your team meetings? #Strategy #HumanConnection #People
