Our Director Stewart Friel was delighted to attend the 'Contaminated Land Expo' at The NEC, Birmingham yesterday to find out more about the latest products and services on offer within the sector. Stewart commented: 'It was interesting to hear Angus Niven, Matt Timmins and Karen Thornton discussing their roles in promoting responsible and sustainable land remediation practices. I also found the panel discussion on the future of sustainable soils in construction and how the DoW CoP MMP can be used to deliver sustainable remediation strategies as part of the circular economy particularly informative'. We recently welcomed Zoë Hodges to our Bristol office for a 4 week work experience placement in our GeoEnvironmental team. Zoe commented on her time with us: 'Over the last few weeks, I have had the great opportunity to complete work experience with Rodgers Leask in Bristol, supported by their welcoming and friendly team. During my time in the office, I examined various reports and environmental data, which was very interesting to relate to what I saw in the field. I’ve had the chance to visit a range of construction sites, from serene, sheep-filled farmland to one of the biggest and busiest housing developments in the UK. On-site, with guidance from experienced colleagues, I oversaw Earthworks, Trial Pits, Window Sampling, and Rotary Core drilling. I also tried my hand at water sampling and soil and core logging – and was lucky enough to have lovely weather almost every day! As someone transitioning into a new career, this experience has been invaluable, giving me an excellent insight into the world of Geo-environmental and Geo-technical engineering. I am incredibly grateful to Rodgers Leask, and especially Andrew Jackson, for this fantastic opportunity. Thank you to the entire Rodgers Leask team – I hope to see more of you around Bristol in the future!' We wish Zoe all the best with her future career in the industry!! #RodgersLeask #Bristol #GeoEnvironmental #NextGeneration #ConstructionIndustry

We’ve been doing the rounds with our directors, helping you to get to know the people leading our business even more than you already do. First, we spoke to Kully Toor, director of structures, about his career that spans more than 25 years, the industry and a few things outside of work. You can read his Q&A on our website here: https://lnkd.in/emh8cNKr #BuiltEnvironment #ConstructionIndustry #RodgersLeask #StructuralEngineering #CivilEngineering #GeoEnvironmental #TransportPlanning #ConsultingEngineers #Derby #Nottingham #Birmingham #Liverpool #Bristol

Last week our Peter Sparham co-hosted a netwalking event with Sheleendra Fernando at Bradgate Park - the views were spectacular and it was great to spend time connecting in the outdoors! Huge thanks to guests Simon Betts, Olivia Price, Simon Atha and Tom Smith for joining us for the walk and bite to eat at The Bradgate afterwards. Recently, our Alex Parkes CEng MICE visited the Severn Trent head office in Coventry to present to the Midlands Land Portfolio team on Schedule 3 of the Flood and Water Management Act 2010. The presentation covered how the changes could impact developers looking to undertake new development post-implementation, especially with regard to Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) and the associated technical approval process that all new sites will need to undergo. Thank you to Robert Eaton for organising the presentation and we're glad to hear the team found it both informative and interesting. #RodgersLeask #CivilEngineering #StructuralEngineering #TransportPlanning #GeoEnvironmental #ConsultingEngineers #Derby #Nottingham #Birmingham #Liverpool #Bristol

Today marks International Day of Charity, an inspiring campaign that helps people across the world and encourages us all to do some good in our community. We are passionate about giving back to our local communities, and this year our teams have already spent an incredible 109 hours volunteering their time across a variety of fantastic projects in Bristol, Derby, Liverpool and Nottingham. From design workshops with university students to reopening neglected woodland for local schools, our teams have been busy! You can read more about our volunteering here: https://lnkd.in/e28V6jyA #SocialValue #CivilEngineering #StructuralEngineering #GeoEnvironmentalEngineering #TransportPlanning #InternationalDayOfCharity

On this day in 1999, work was finished on the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. We spoke with Chris Pollett for his thoughts on this unusual building. “Some of the statistics for the Petronas Towers are fascinating: piles up to 114 metres long, 4.6 metre thick raft foundation, 23m x 23m concrete cores, 2.4m diameter perimeter column and 38 lifts per tower! The two-storey skybridge is 58.4m long, and is 170m above ground level. The bridge is supported by a two-hinge arch with each leg being 51 metres long. Interestingly, the skybridge is not rigidly connected to the towers, and moves independently during high winds. Personally, I think it would look better without the mid-span supports, and I’m guessing at some stage the architect asked “do we really need those supports in the middle of the bridge?!”.

Across the fields of Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering and Geotechnical Engineering, we can provide temporary works designs for a wide range of applications. We challenge briefs, assumptions and “the norm” to ensure our client’s temporary works costs are minimised as much as possible. Our chartered engineers draw on their expertise in buildability, safety and cutting-edge construction techniques, adding value to projects by conserving materials and decreasing build programmes. If you have a temporary works design enquiry, please contact our Regional Director Chris Pollett who will be happy to assist. #RodgersLeask #TemporaryWorks #TemporaryWorksDesign #ConstructionIndustry
