The session was designed to highlight the role and importance ROV’s play in the marine environment. We covered the history of the ROV, how an ROV operates in practice and gave the team an opportunity to carry out some subsea tasks on ROVOP’s in house ROV simulator. ROVOP's Mark Gilmartin had the pleasure of meeting with a delegation from the State of Oregon, USA, as part of their floating offshore wind study tour in Scotland. The meeting took place at the Global Underwater Hub in Aberdeen, where we exchanged insights on the future of renewable energy and offshore wind innovation. Thanks to Jacqui Taylor, Steve Fernie, and the GUH team for hosting us.
Global Underwater Hub this morning welcomed a group from the State of Oregon in the United States as part of their floating offshore wind study tour to Scotland. Led by Melinda Skea and Julia Gerringer from the Oceantic Network, the group visited GUH’s Westhill offices to meet with companies that form part of the offshore wind supply chain and discuss potential opportunities and challenges. The state has two proposed offshore wind farms which have a combined generating capacity of up to 3.1GW of energy. Brookings is located 18 miles offshore, near the California border, and Coos Bay situated 32 miles off the Pacific coast. The party was welcomed by Jacqui Taylor and Steve Fernie of Global Underwater Hub and included a wide range of stakeholders, reflective of the broad range of organisations that have a role to play in developing the offshore wind industry. This included: Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians (ATNI), BlueGreen Alliance, Blue Ridge Strategies LLC, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 932, Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, OREGON AFL-CIO, Oregon Coastal Management Program, Oregon Consensus, Oregon legislative Assembly, Oregon State Legislature, Oregon State University, PACIFIC FISHERY MANAGEMENT COUNCIL, Renewable Northwest, Rogue Climate, Shrimp Producers Marketing Cooperative, South Coast Development Council (SCDC), and The Nature Conservancy. Our thanks to the following individuals and companies who met with the delegation: Matthew Heyman, Acteon Group Steve Wright, ARC Marine George Fisher, Balmoral Group Bill Cattanach OBE, North Sea Transition Authority Mark Gilmartin, ROVOP Jamie MacDonald, Venterra Group Alex Gauntt, Cierco Energy #GlobalUnderwaterHub #OregonState #offshorewind #Scotland #Floatingoffshorewind #supplychain #underwaterindustry
