This week is a special one – it’s Organ Donation Week, and we’re also celebrating 30 years of the NHS Organ Donor Register! Organ donation has transformed countless lives, and one such story is that of Natasha. Born with a heart condition, Natasha underwent over several major heart surgeries and spent much of her life in and out of hospital. During her second year at university, her health took a drastic turn, but she never gave up, even working on assignments whenever she could. At just 22 years old, her life was transformed when she underwent a life-saving domino transplant at Harefield Hospital, where she had the extraordinary chance to meet her donor, Andrew. Andrew's lung function significantly deteriorated due to cystic fibrosis, leading to the necessity of a double lung transplant. Doctors believed that a combined heart and lung transplant would provide him with the best chance of survival.Their bond is a powerful reminder of the hope and new beginnings that organ donation makes possible. Natasha share "It is because of Andrew and his decision to donate his heart that I was able to complete my degree, earn a PGCE, complete my Master’s Degree, and teach for 22 years. His gift enabled me to backpack across numerous continents and, most importantly, to become a mother. " This year Natasha is celebrating 25 years and continues to give back. She recently completed the Three Peaks Challenge, raising vital funds for critically ill patients at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals'. About us
Our charity supports Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals by buying equipment, funding vital research and improving the lives of patients with heart and lung conditions. Although our hospitals receive NHS funding and form an NHS Trust in their own right, they remain pioneers and world-class centres for the diagnosis, treatment and care of heart and lung patients as a result of the extra funding that the Charity can provide for carefully selected projects. We help to make our hospitals not just ordinary, but extraordinary.

We recently celebrated the Heart of West London partnership with a special event hosted by Brentford Football Club. The evening was a testament to the power of collaboration and community, highlighting the significant impact this initiative has had on heart health for the local area. Our Chief Executive, Richard Bowyer, had the honour of presenting Nityajit R. with the Heart of West London Thank You Award—a well-deserved recognition of Nity’s outstanding contributions, which have been instrumental in advancing the partnership’s goals. By raising funds for our charity, this partnership enables us to carry out groundbreaking research into the prevention of sudden cardiac death in athletes. Hear from research lead by Sabiha Gati, talking about the importance of this partnership and how it will ultimately save lives How the Heart of West London Partnership is helping Dr Sabiha's life saving research ~ https://bit.ly/3z1sIeD For those interested in learning more about the Heart of West London partnership and its impact, please click the link. https://bit.ly/47uNQpe #HOWL #Fundraising #Lifesavingresearch Ella Mugglestone Greig Mailer

Congratulations to Will Leslie who took on the Matterhorn Extreme and raised over £30,000 for Royal Brompton Hospital. Last Friday, Will Leslie took on the ultimate challenge by participating in the Matterhorn Extreme, one of the most technical trail races in the Alps, to raise money for Royal Brompton Hospital (RBH). This cause is incredibly close to his heart, as RBH took such good care of his mother during her six-month battle against sepsis in the ICU. The Matterhorn Extreme is no ordinary race—it’s a gruelling 24km course with 2,750m of ascent and descent, featuring steep climbs, scree fields, glaciers, and glacial rivers. This race, part of the Sky Runner World Series and the headline event of the Matterhorn Ultraks trail weekend, is known for pushing even the toughest athletes to their limits. “After 8hrs and 29 of the most challenging minutes I’ve ever spent on a mountain I finally finished the Matterhorn Extreme! It was a spectacular day, with scenery to match, and the event lived up to it’s name!” Will stated. Will’s dedication to this race is driven by his desire to honour his late mother, Christine Leslie, who sadly passed away in March. Christine spent her career caring for and educating children, many with learning difficulties, and her legacy lives on through the project Will is supporting. The funds Will has raised will go towards a vital RBH scheme that supports young people aged 16-25 who suffer from chronic illness. This project is specifically designed to help RBH’s young respiratory patients, who often endure prolonged and recurring hospital stays. Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity reposted this
https://lnkd.in/e69pNU-F It would have been my late sister Emily’s 40th birthday over the weekend. We lost Emily to a micro bacterial infection following her second lung transplant. They say when you have a major organ transplant you are swapping one illness for another, such are the complexities. We are raising £100,000 to fund vital research in preventing post-transplant infection and rejection, to make sure that transplant patients like Emily have a second chance at life with their loved ones. If you feel like supporting, a donation link is in the comments. Cystic Fibrosis Trust Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals
