The Econometrics Journal published a special issue celebrating the seminal contributions of Philip G. Wright (1928), to causal inference in economics, which include the invention of instrumental variables (IV) estimation and an early economic application of directed acyclic graphs (DAGs). In the editorial, Jaap Abbring, Victor Chernozhukov, and Iván Fernandez-Vál provide a modern perspective on these contributions, in a lecture note format that can be useful for teaching. Both this editorial and a reproduction of Wright’s original text are freely available online. Help RES to bring communities of economists together! One of our four strategic priorities includes bringing communities of economists together to exchange knowledge and learn from each other. See what RES member Seula Kim (Penn State University) has to say about our RES Conference. Knowledge exchange is vital to any discipline and is particularly important in economics, where high-quality research informs better policy decisions. Through our different events, initiatives and the RES Member Directory, we hope to create a strong network of economists from different career stages, countries, areas of expertise and employment sectors. If you want to be a part of this network and help expand our goal, please consider becoming a member with RES. Royal Economic Society reposted this
The Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Caucus is recruiting a paid intern to work with us on quantitative and qualitative analysis. This internship is an excellent opportunity for people from under-represented backgrounds in the #research & #innovation sector to have a taste of working in a research team. We hope that supporters of EDICa will share with final year students and recent graduates in social sciences with data analysis skills and encourage them to apply. Closing date is currently 3 April. The internship is equivalent to four weeks full-time, and we can provide flexibility over the hours and whether the role is in-person on our Edinburgh campus, hybrid, or remote based in the UK. Find out more about our internship and prior interns' experiences on our website: https://lnkd.in/eNJKqjE3 To view the formal job advertisement and to apply, click here: https://lnkd.in/eem6jwSc #hiring #jobVacancy #internship #DataAnalysis

Read our gender monitoring report from the RES Women’s Committee – Report on the status of women in academic economics within the UK. The research finds that overall female representation in academic economics improved steadily over the 10 academic years ending in 2021/22, growing by over 6 percentage points to just under 30%, or a ratio of almost 1 in 3. Gender convergence in representation happened at a faster pace in junior and mid-seniority positions than it did at the top. The report also covers findings on gender pay gap and the leaky pipeline.
