WE'RE HIRING 16,000 TEMPORARY WORKERS TO HELP DELIVER CHRISTMAS The seasonal work covers Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas and includes 7,000 mail centre sorting roles available in England, 1,000 in Scotland, 300 in Wales and 450 in Northern Ireland. There are also 5,000 delivery and collection roles available across the country The roles offer competitive pay rates and the opportunity for longer-term work. We're pulling out all the stops in its seasonal drive to deliver Christmas to its customers. Today the business announced it is recruiting 16,000 temporary workers to help its 85,000 posties sort the additional mail and increasing number of parcels the company expects to process over the festive period. The temporary positions will be located in two parcel hubs, five seasonal parcel sort centres and 37 mail centres across the country, with a variety of shifts available. We've launched a new campaign highlighting the variety of ways customers can send parcels through our expanded range of drop-off and collection options. Created by AMV BBDO, the “Send It Your Way” campaign shows how we've made it even easier to send parcels thanks to the launch of lockers and Collect+ sites, in addition to our at-home collection service, Parcel Collect. Today we've announced the launch of the UK’s first Collective Defined Contribution pension plan. The innovative scheme will offer over 100,000 Royal Mail employees a cash lump sum and an income in retirement. Royal Mail, the Communications Workers Union and Unite CMA have worked together to design and implement a scheme that would provide the right pension arrangement for its people and the company. At the outset, the parties agreed that any scheme had to provide one pension for all employees with at least 12 months service. It had to be affordable for Royal Mail and its people and would provide an income in retirement. We're installing ten new large parcel conveyors at our mail centres in the coming months, as part of of our continued drive to improve efficiency and meet growing demand for parcel deliveries ahead of the peak Christmas period. The conveyors, which will speed up parcel sorting and improve their tracking, will be deployed at mail centres where large parcels are currently mostly sorted by hand. The new technology will help us meet increasing demand for parcels, especially of a larger size. Our in-house engineering team initially designed and built a new large parcel conveyor for the Midlands Parcel Hub, using belts instead of the typical rollers. We're investing in over 300 green upgrades to heating, lighting and water systems across our estate, including our first gas-free heating method, as part of our strategy to be Net-Zero by 2040. The improvements will save the company 3,500t CO2 equivalent a year, on top of the reduction in emissions already being realised across our fleet and supply chain. Our property estate consists of more than 1,200 operational sites and offices around the UK, which currently account for around eight per cent of total emissions. The Green Postal Day is an initiative supported by 24 postal operators worldwide coming together to highlight the environmental and business benefits the postal industry has reaped by working together as a sector to reduce CO2 emissions. We’re already the UK’s greenest* delivery option for letters and parcels, but we want to go even further to reduce emissions and improve air quality. • We operate the UK’s largest electric van delivery fleet with around 5,000 electric vans in our network and a further 2100 planned. • We have deployed 10 million of litres of biofuels in our fleet of heavier trucks. • We purchase 100% renewable electricity across our entire estate. • We are significantly reducing our use of domestic air transport in favour of lower emission alternatives. *Based on average gCO2e emissions per parcel delivered by UK parcel operators, as published by Citizens Advice 2023 Parcels League Table. Today we've revealed images of a set of 10 Special Stamps featuring original illustrations of spiders found in the UK. Featured on the stamps are the: Sand Bear Spider; Cucumber Spider; Woodland Jumping Spider; Four-spotted Orbweb Spider; Spider Nurseryweb Spider; Ladybird Spider; Candy-striped Spider; Wasp Spider; Zebra Spider; and Heather Crab Spider. The stamps feature original artwork by wildlife illustrator Richard Lewington. Lewington has previously illustrated three Special Stamps issues: Butterflies (2013); Bees (2015); and Brilliant Bugs (2020).
