    𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐕𝐞𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐬 Striking a Balance between Present and Future The commercial vehicle industry is currently in an interesting place, to say the least. Balancing the challenges of the present with the significant investments in future opportunities is as exciting as it is scary.   The focus of this year's IAA TRANSPORTATION was clearly on #electrification / #hydrogen as drivers on the road to sustainable transport. Driven by EU regulations and the growing threat of city bans, all OEMs are investing in the shift in technology, as well as their brand image. Additionally the possibilities and customer expectations in regards to connected vehicles and relating services, are seeing more and more OEM showcasing digital / connected solutions.   Future here we come! However, high battery costs and range limitations continue to pose challenges, not to mention the enormous lag in the required infrastructure developments, such as adequate charging points. As a result, the sale of #electrification products & services is nowhere near reaching relevant numbers yet to start recouping the investments at hand.   The dilemma is worsened by impacting forces of the #economicdownturn on the sale of traditional combustion engine machines, and a shortage of skilled labor on all fronts, most notably with the lack of workshop technicians, to allow for at least reaping the full potential of #aftersales and driving #absorption in retail networks. So despite a slight growth of 2% in new commercial vehicle registrations (excluding buses) from January to August 2024 compared to the previous year, a month-over-month comparison between August 2023 and 2024 reveals a significant decline: registrations of commercial vehicles dropped by 44%, showing increased pressure in this segment and necessitating performance-enhancing measures already in the last quarter of 2024.
