It brought together dynamic professionals, all united by a shared commitment to shape the future of our industry. Our inspiring panel discussion, 'Empowering Women: Personal Journeys, Collective Progress, and Achieving Gender Equality Together', featured invaluable insights from Donna Robertson ACII, Sandra Lewin and Ajay Mistry ACMA, each sharing their journey and vision for a more inclusive profession. 🎙 Donna Robertson, Managing Director at Squared Insurance Brokers Limited and winner of Insurance Woman of the Year - Small/Medium Firms, shared, “I was honoured to be part of an event that brought women to the forefront. Recently, we came across this incredible piece in our archives – a silver cup from 1801 – originally presented to Captain John Marshall for his heroic efforts in extinguishing a fire on board the ship Arcade in Hull. ⚓ Delicately engraved, the cup stands as a testament to bravery and teamwork in a time when firefighting was more community-driven than structured. The Hull Advertiser describes a scene of 'people of all ranks' joining forces to save the ship, including Captain Marshall, who was honoured for his 'exertions'. But the newspaper’s criticism of slow-responding engines and crowd control adds even more intrigue to the story. A few mysteries remain: • How did this cup, presented to a brave captain over 200 years ago, find its way back into our possession? • Could this Captain Marshall be the same individual who discovered the Marshall Islands? • And what untold stories would this cup share if it could speak?
