Yesterday, RSE proudly served as sponsor and chair of the Institute of Water Scottish Area Autumn Seminar. Held at the University of Strathclyde's Technology and Innovation Centre, the event was a significant highlight in the water industry calendar. RSE's Leia Pol, Sarah Wardlaw, Caitlin Carrick, and Opala Siddique skillfully shared the chairing duties. They represented RSE to the wider industry and facilitated discussions on collaboration, digitisation, and nature-based solutions. A big well done to the team! This year's theme, focused on fostering collaboration within the industry, was brought to life by RSE's Mark Livingston. Mark highlighted RSE's capabilities, particularly our collaborative approach to innovation and our dedication to advancing the industry through modular and offsite solutions. We also had the pleasure of hearing from Galen Fulford OF Biomatrix Water, a recent RSE partner. Galen presented their innovative approach to water treatment, which integrates ecology and engineering. By combining natural habitats with engineering, Biomatrix delivers cutting-edge solutions that enhance biodiversity and revitalise water systems. RSE extends thanks to everyone who participated in and attended the seminar. It was inspiring to see stakeholders from across the industry come together to exchange ideas and shape the future. By working collaboratively, we are ensuring the future of water industry remains in safe hands. Institute of Water

Blackburn Starling has opened a new premises in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire to house a new innovative arm of the business. The new unit is home to the business's new instrumentation, control, automation and telemetry (ICAT) operations. Steve White and son Chris, who head up the new ICAT team, have taken a five-year lease on a 2,748 sq ft at Unit 7 at West Court on Buntsford Park Road in Bromsgrove. Steve White, Blackburn Starling ICAT Framework Manager stated: "Blackburn Starling has been based in Nottingham since 1870, and now mostly manufactures electrical switchgear and controls for major utilities such as water companies. This technology gives water companies remote control of equipment and operations across their estates, as well as the ability to constantly monitor data". Ben Truslove, Joint Managing Director at John Truslove, added: "This is excellent news for the area, that an East Midlands company should choose Bromsgrove for their southern area base for a new operation. It brings jobs and an innovative new business to Worcestershire. We look forward to seeing the business continue to grow into the future."

At RSE, quality is at the heart of everything we do. As we celebrate World Quality Day 2024, we're reminded of the crucial role high standards play across all aspects of our work. This year's theme, "Quality for Impact", highlights the transformative power of a strong quality culture - one that not only enhances the products and services we deliver but also drives sustainability, fosters innovation, and keeps our customers at the centre of all we do. Over the past year, RSE's quality department has been focused on strengthening our practices through a series of internal and external audits. These efforts have not only bolstered our reputation but also improved our ability to secure exciting new projects. This ensures our team can confidently take on rewarding initiatives, knowing we have solid processes and standards in place. Another key priority has been collaborating closely with on-site suppliers and subcontractors. By addressing challenges early, we've been able to prevent disruptions and streamline project delivery, resulting in stronger outcomes for both RSE and our clients. RSE's commitment to quality is a continuous journey. As we look ahead, the quality department remains dedicated to innovation - finding new ways to visualise and manage quality across all projects. Our quality team helps make our work easier, safer, and more effective, with a focus not just on compliance, but on enhancing the overall experience for everyone at RSE.

COP29 is the 29th UN Climate Change Conference being held in Baku, Azerbaijan from the 11th November to the 22nd November 2024. The Conference of the Parties (COP) brings together delegates to accelerate action which tackles the climate crisis. The conference invites governments, businesses, and civil society to drive change on a global scale. This year’s conference gives countries the opportunity to present an update of their national climate action plans under the Paris Agreement, which limits scenario through solar, wind and other renewable solutions. Last year’s conference, COP28, was the first time that fossil fuels were expressly mentioned in a COP decision, with the summit agreeing to “transitioning away from fossil fuels as an energy system in a just, orderly and equitable manner.” Key topics to be discussed at COP29 include: - Climate finance - Updated national climate actions plans - Align biodiversity and climate - Agree the specifics of the global goal on adaptation What are RSE doing to mitigate the climate crisis? RSE is driving down our own emissions to achieve our ambitious Net Zero targets. We are delighted to be an operationally Carbon Neutral business for the 2023/34 FY, as well as achieving a 10% decrease in scope 1 and 2 emissions per £M spent. Investment in renewables such as solar panels, and low carbon alternatives, such as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) have been key to driving down our organizational carbon footprint.

Last night, RSE attended the Built Environment - Smarter Transformation Accelerate to Zero Awards at Platform in Glasgow, a gathering of businesses, organisations, and individuals leading the charge in decarbonising the built environment and supporting a just transition to net zero. We’re thrilled to announce that RSE took home the top prize in the Gamechanger Award category! This category recognised initiatives or products that are innovative, promote a just transition, and reduce embodied carbon in the built environment. Our winning entry featured the RSE-TMB™, part of the m-EcoBuilding™ range, which stands out for its modular design, offsite construction, and plug-and-play capabilities. The RSE-TMB™ is crafted from sustainable timber sourced from Scottish Water’s carbon offset forestry, providing a forward-thinking alternative to carbon-intensive materials like steel and GRP. We'd also like to thank Ecosystems Technologies for their collaboration on this project, which helped make winning this award possible.
