Nature is in crisis. Together we can save it.

About us

Passionate about nature, dedicated to saving it. Since we started on our mission in 1889, the threats to nature have continued to grow, but we've grown to meet them too. We’re now the largest nature conservation charity in the UK (although our work stretches far beyond that), consistently delivering successful conservation, forging powerful new partnerships with other organisations and inspiring others to stand up and give nature the home it deserves.

We’re "Chough-ed" to share a record-breaking summer for Choughs! 🌊 Choughs (pronounced ‘Chuffs’) - the iconic red-beaked birds of our coastal landscapes - have made a triumphant return across Cornwall and Wales this summer! Thanks to over two decades of dedicated conservation work, a record number of 55 Chough pairs attempted to breed in Cornwall, with 40 successfully raising 108 ‘Choughlets’. Meanwhile, RSPB Ramsey Island and RSPB South Stack Cliffs also reported their best breeding seasons to date. This incredible success is a testament to the passion and perseverance of conservationists, nature-friendly farmers, and the local communities who continue to champion this charismatic bird. From near extinction to a record year, this is a conservation win worth celebrating! #ConservationSuccess #Choughs #GoodNews

    • A striking black bird with a bright red beak and legs stands on a sunlit rocky outcrop overlooking a bright blue sea. The bird, a Chough, is surrounded by patches of yellow wildflowers and tufts of grass that add a touch of colour to the rugged coastal landscape. The contrast between the bird’s dark feathers and the vibrant surroundings creates a vivid scene of coastal beauty and tranquillity.

    • A Juvenile Green Woodpecker stands on a grassy patch in the foreground, gazing upward with its beak slightly open as if calling out. The bird is sharply focused, while the background is softly blurred, revealing the outline of modern houses with red brick and white windows, surrounded by green foliage. A green hedgerow on the right adds a further touch of nature, contrasting with the suburban setting behind. The image highlights the coexistence of wildlife and urban environments, emphasising the benefits of building and developing with nature in mind.

100,000 Swift records & counting! 🎉 We’re excited to share that the Swift Mapper app, a citizen science tool designed to track Swift nesting sites and support conservation efforts, has just hit an incredible milestone—100,000 records submitted by dedicated nature lovers across the UK! Why does this matter? Swifts have seen a dramatic 66% decline since 1995, largely due to the loss of nesting sites. Swift Mapper empowers communities to map where these birds are nesting. Every record provides valuable data, helping conservationists protect existing nests and identify where new sites, like Swift boxes or bricks, are needed. This milestone is a testament to the collective impact the public can have on reversing the decline of this iconic species. As Swifts head back to Africa, let’s continue our efforts to ensure they have safe places to return to next spring. You can help prepare for next year by installing nest boxes or Swift bricks, and joining local Swift action groups. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/esbjzWyh #Swifts #CitizenScience
