✔ Another upgrade to a horizontal boring and milling machine completed recently for one of our regular customers Tata Steel. Following a risk assessment by Pilz Automation UK, SAFETY SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY UK LTD were engaged to undertake the corrective actions to this machine which included - Troax GB enclosing perimeter fence with 2 'request to enter' controlled access gates. Upgrade to the fixed access to include compliant handrailing and access steps. Safety related control system upgrade to meet Cat3 PLd of EN13849-1. Utilising a SICK Sensor Intelligence Flexi Soft programmable safety controller system, into which we integrated - 1. Magnetic solenoid locking gate switches 2. Replacement emergency stop pushbuttons. 3. Guard interlocks 4. Spindle trip probe. 5. Additional safety contactors to provide the required redundancy. This involved the in house design and build of a new safety panel with the additional safety contactors being installed into the OEM control panel. Not forgetting other energy sources! we installed an SMC VHS40 lockable dump valve to the incoming compressed air supply to provide safe isolation and dissipation of upstream pressure. A nice "Shiny" bespoke stainless steel & polycarbonate project completed recently. Our clients honing machine had well made guarding already provided by the OEM, however the client needed to increase the diameter of their workholding fixture to accommodate certain components. New guards were designed by Simeon Young our mechanical design engineer utilising AutoDesk Inventor Professional Design Software to ensure the guards were fit for purpose first time. All polycarbonate is retained in gaskets, seals and clamped into place minimising risk of stress relating degradation of plastics in the future and ensuring that no components or tooling can be ejected. Existing interlocks were transferred over with new custom made brackets and the job was completed within a day onsite. A nice little job completed this week. The client had noise issues relating to a punching bank on this plastic film processing line. An acoustic booth with Fortress MGard trapped key interlocks was the preferred solution. A couple of new emergency stop stations also added to replace the existing non compliant ones.
