Next on the Throne...the Tealeaf Adventuring Company. It is with great pleasure that we see @tealeafadventuringcompany host a second livestream fundraiser for the benefit of SameYou. Last year, they fundraised in memory of Emma and this year they have developed an exciting theme in which donors can affect the flow of the game through Tiltify donations. Every Thursday this September, tune in and help them "Build-A-Boss" while players attempt to overcome the challenges created by other players during their Dungeons and Dragons game. They will wrap up their fundraiser with a Sunday session on September 29 (5-9pm EST) where miniatures of characters will be painted and the company will also hold a discussion about the key moments that took place during the month. When Dr Brian Hoeflinger's 18-year-old son died in a car accident in 2013, a part of him died. However, he says a new part was born too. Dr Hoeflinger set a goal to achieve great things in life that his son would no longer have the chance to do. His youngest son, Kevin, felt much the same since his brother died. Dr Hoeflinger said: "We have spoken extensively about wanting to challenge ourselves physically and mentally. Furthermore, I wanted to do something beyond my everyday life as a neurosurgeon. We were searching for a challenge that seemed impossible to us. Climbing the nearly 20,000 feet below-freezing, snow-covered peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro was what we landed on." And so, Dr Hoeflinger and Kevin committed to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Their challenge is fast approaching as they will be leaving on September 6. SameYou is working with Big Issue Recruit to help brain injury survivors and carers cope with the often overwhelming prospect of returning to work after trauma by providing job coaches to help with the hiring and settling in process. 61% of respondents to a survey polled by the organisations said they would have benefitted from a job coach to ease their return to work and as many as one in five survivors rated the support they received from their workplace after returning as ‘poor’. Shak Dean, a job coach at Big Issue Recruit, said: “It’s about understanding someone’s story and understanding what the boundaries are preventing them from moving on and actually having the life they want. “We have a conversation, go through steps and actions to see what is going on and where are they at. From there, we look at how we can help them navigate this and get them into employment, education, or whatever it might be. It’s not the same for any two people.” Find out how you can support the initiative here: https://loom.ly/9w_3ge0 #SameYouCharity #ReturnToWork #TheBigIssue
