Helping people manage risk associated with ground and structure movement, using satellite-borne radar.
About us
SatSense provides precise and up-to-date deformation monitoring services using data from satellite radar. Founded by leading academics, Professors Andy Hooper and Tim Wright at the University of Leeds, SatSense offers deformation data at a far greater level of accuracy and granularity compared with other data suppliers. Our Services We help protect the things that matter most to people – monitoring potentially harmful movement of large-scale infrastructure such as rail, roads, pipelines and property - and the ground around it. We can conduct historical analyses or ongoing monitoring.

Legacy coal mining can cause subsidence for decades, posing risks to nearby infrastructure. In the West Midlands, we’ve observed up to 1 cm of annual #groundmovement along a road stretch near an old #colliery. Monitoring areas around legacy mining sites is vital for understanding how ground movement affects critical infrastructure like roads, helping prevent potential hazards. How satellite radar (InSAR) helps: 🛰 Detects subtle ground movements with millimetre precision 🛰 Provides historical archive data and ongoing monitoring for long-term trends 🛰 Enables remote monitoring without the need for boots on the ground For more insights on how satellite radar can support your project, reach out to our InSAR Solutions Specialist; contact@satsense.com #GroundMonitoring #InSARMonitoring #InSARdata #InfrastructureRisk #MiningLegacy

We had a great time at Highways UK over the past few days. If you drove home on the M42 south of Birmingham, you might have driven over something interesting! Our ground and structural movement observation tool; SatShop shows a ground movement hotspot on the M42 outer ring road, south of Birmingham. This area shows visible road cracking, demonstrating how InSAR technology pinpoints potential issues. InSAR offers unique historical and ongoing monitoring for highways, helping understand causes of uneven surfaces and assess infrastructure resilience. This M42 example is just one of many where Satsense's #InSAR solutions continue to actively monitor and identify potential challenges. Curious about InSAR for infrastructure monitoring? Welcome to the fifth and final post in our 🛰 InSAR for Highways series. Today, we’re focusing on how long-term data from InSAR can inform predictive maintenance strategies for highway infrastructure. As roads age and weather patterns become more unpredictable, ensuring the resilience of key highways is more important than ever. Resilience refers to how well road networks and their structures cope with and recover from disruptive events, whether it’s heavy rainfall, traffic loads, or temperature fluctuations. By combining data from various sources—geological reports, historical trends, and remote sensing like InSAR—we can better understand and manage these risks. Here’s why long-term InSAR data is so valuable: 🛰 InSAR detects millimetric ground movement that short-term surveys might miss. 🛰 Analysing years of data allows engineers to spot patterns linked to geology, drainage, and more. 🛰 Combining #InSAR with other data sources like #LiDAR or historical records enhances predictive maintenance. 🛰 This approach prevents small issues from escalating, reducing reactive repairs and unplanned closures. For instance, the northern M25 showed subtle movement that #LiDAR missed. InSAR, combined with geological data, revealed potential links to underlying #geology. Want to see how InSAR can help future-proof your highways? Visit us at Highways UK next week at stand 56, or drop us an email at contact@satsense.com. #PredictiveMaintenance #HighwayResilience #RemoteSensing #CivilEngineering #GeotechnicalEngineering #InfrastructureResilience

Welcome to the fourth post in our 🛰 InSAR for Highways series. Today, we’re focusing on network-wide monitoring using InSAR. SatSense efficiently delivers #InSAR data and analytics to operators managing vast networks across the nation. This is especially valuable for linear infrastructure networks stretching over tens of thousands of miles. Our philosophy is simple: asset managers and teams on the ground need access to real-time monitoring. Data that’s weeks or months old simply won’t suffice. That's why we provide updates with a latency of hours to days after each satellite overpass. Here’s how we make real-time monitoring possible - Timely insights: Asset managers and teams require real-time data, not outdated information. - Rapid updates: Our RapidSAR processing chain delivers data within hours to days, ensuring up-to-date insights are always available. - Advanced analytics: Using machine learning, we turn vast amounts of satellite data into precise, actionable diagnostics. Interested in learning more? Meet us at Highways UK on 16-17 October at NEC Birmingham, or email us at contact@satsense.com. #InSAR #RealTimeMonitoring #HighwaysUK #AssetManagement #RapidSAR #InfrastructureSafety
