In light of this year's International Day of the Girl, we’re on a mission to help girls become unstoppable and unleash their creativity🌟 Earlier this year, we launched the ‘Girls Unstoppable’ programme in partnership with the LEGO Group and The LEGO Foundation. Through the programme, we aim to reach 330,000 girls indirectly throughout 2024-2026 in four countries: China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Mexico. ‘Girls Unstoppable’ invests in the creative potential of girls by providing them with safe spaces to voice their concerns, come together, have fun and explore their creativity through play🎨 ⚽ Bringing together innovative approaches like Girl-led movement building and the Girls Decide curriculum, girls will become stronger advocates for their rights and feel empowered to talk about the issues that matter to them. So far through the ‘Girls Unstoppable’ programme we have: 👉 Reached 9,627 girls and their communities & established 50 girls clubs. 👉 Supported local girl-led campaigns piloted on themes like “I can be who I want to be” and “Girls Decide” 👉 Established summer camps, community activities and child forums in the four key countries. 👉 Established girls’ friendly advocacy spaces and connection to decision-makers 👉 Adapted the Girls Decide curriculum and integrated it with Save the Children’s approach to Play 👉 Supported girls in applying LEGO bricks for problem-solving Learn more about the programme➡️ https://lnkd.in/dfvqXJe3 #DayoftheGirl #IDG2024

  • A girl is married every 30s in countries rated as fragile states and with high child marriage rates - so called “fragility-child marriage hotspots”⚠️ This International Day of the Girl, 32 million girls are living in these emergency hotspots. Sadly, girls living in extremely fragile countries are twice as likely to marry than girls in countries experiencing periods of greater stability 💔 Child marriage has devastating consequences for a girl’s life by depriving them of their rights to health, education, safety and participation. Persistent and unaddressed inequalities, the climate crisis and the erosion of children's and human rights mean that girls’ lives will continue to be shaped by a cycle of crisis and recovery unless urgent action is taken. The governments of the fragile countries, UN agencies, civil society organisations, and donors must work together to ensure girls' rights are protected ❤️ Read our new Girlhood Report➡️ https://lnkd.in/edwD-dN5 #IDG2024 #ChildMarriage

  • During this past year, more children have been killed in Gaza than in four years of conflict worldwide ⚠ Against all odds, our teams and local partners have worked tirelessly to adapt and keep providing lifesaving support to children in the occupied Palestinian territory, in both Gaza and the West Bank. In Gaza in this past year we have: ❤️Set up child-friendly spaces and temporary learning spaces. ❤️Provided support to separated/unaccompanied children and children with disabilities. ❤️Provided shelter kits, hygiene kits and drinking water. ❤️Deployed our Emergency Health Unit to provide critical healthcare services to over 20,000 people. ❤️Helped to provide polio vaccinations to over 2,800 children. ❤️Distributed food parcels together with local partners. ❤️Provided cash assistance to help families afford essential items. The situation remains dire, and it is crucial that the siege is lifted, and all crossings are opened to ensure that lifesaving aid reaches those in need. While we are calling for a ceasefire and improved access, we are doing everything we can to provide essential food, water, and medicine to families in need. Your donation will help us keep delivering this lifesaving support and rebuild shattered childhoods 👉 https://lnkd.in/eZ887fCm Learn more about our response during this one year of war in Gaza ➡ https://lnkd.in/eZ523pVf

  • This horrific past year has shattered childhoods in #Gaza. In just one year: ⚠ Over 14,000 children have been killed by Israeli bombs, airstrikes, and bullets. Only after a ceasefire will it be possible to determine the full extent of this  war’s devastating death toll and count how many children have paid with their lives, including all those killed by a lack of clean water, food and healthcare. ⚠ Over 20,000 children in Gaza are missing, either lost, detained, buried under the rubble, or in mass graves. ⚠ 37 Israeli children were killed during the 7 Oct attacks by Palestinian armed groups, and 36 Israeli children were taken hostage. Disturbingly little is known about the condition or whereabouts of remaining hostages. Save the Children strongly condemns violence committed against children. We need a #CeasefireNOW to protect the lives of all children and guarantee the return of all children taken hostage and detained.

  • "We are all tired." One year into a crisis like this, we'd expect to be fully operational, delivering aid to children and families at scale. Instead, we are being forced to operate in impossible conditions, and not enough aid is getting to families in #Gaza. Our colleagues in Gaza are civilians living with families, who have experienced profound losses, including their homes, friends and loved ones, and all semblance of their lives before this war. Despite this, they continue to work in extraordinarily challenging conditions. But the challenges aid workers face in reaching children and families must never become the new normal. We need a definitive #CeasefireNOW to continue lifesaving efforts to ensure children see tomorrow. Listen to our colleague Yasmeen, who has lived and worked through this horrific past year👇

  • With children back to school with the start of another academic year, we’re celebrating the heroes who make education possible - teachers! 🏫📖 Around the world, we work to ensure teachers have the tools they need to ensure good quality and inclusive education for every child. Over the last 5 years our Ejada programme, run in Jordan in partnership with Community Jameel, MIT Jameel World Education Lab, Alwaleed Philanthropies, and the Ministry of Education, has supported teachers’ development and wellbeing and enhanced school environments, with the potential to benefit more than 1.4 million students, educators, and caregivers nation-wide. Through a series of professional development courses and creative activities piloted with over 1,700 teachers, this new approach has: ✅Reduced teachers’ stress levels ✅Had a positive impact on students’ participation in class ✅Improved teachers’ specialist knowledge Find out more and read the full results➡️ https://lnkd.in/e4NTUQ8y #WorldTeachersDay

  • As wars and violence continues to escalate across the world, children may have questions or concerns. At Save the Children we're dedicated to supporting children's mental wellbeing and empowering them and their parents to having these conversations. Starting these conversations with your children can be hard, but you are not alone. Our child psychologists have put together a useful guide that can help you get started! By fostering open communications and providing reassurance, you can help your child feel more secure during these challenging times. Save and share with your family, friends and colleagues ❤️

  • This horrific past year has shattered childhoods in #Gaza. Every day, children face violence, fear, loss, displacement, hunger, and devastation. They’re paying the highest price for a war they play no part in. These things should not be normalised for any children, anywhere. While they’ve found ways to endure this year of relentless war, it cannot be their new normal. To truly protect children’s lives, we need a #CeasefireNOW. Sign our petition👉 https://bit.ly/4gMkRCz
