We recently travelled to Edinburgh to visit Home-Start Edinburgh a charity making a profound difference in the lives of over 250 families each year. This incredible organisation supports families with children under the age of 5 who are facing a range of challenges, from isolation and post-natal depression to dealing with illness, bereavement, or the demands of parenting multiple young children. Home-Start Edinburgh’s core service is a lifeline for many—a dedicated home-visiting volunteer or worker who provides one-to-one support, visiting families weekly to offer practical help, emotional support, and guidance. They also deliver a variety of group activities, from baby massage to parenting programs, and offer advice on financial support, housing, and employment, ensuring that families have access to the resources they need to thrive. We’re proud to have awarded Home-Start Edinburgh a grant of £3,000 to support their Parental Support Services, specifically their specialist Perinatal Support service. This vital program focuses on families experiencing perinatal and infant mental health challenges, often stemming from complex factors like developmental trauma, birth trauma, or adverse experiences in the parents’ own lives. The Perinatal Support service, in partnership with NHS Lothian’s Parent and Infant Relationship Service team, will support over 80 families in the coming year. With a dedicated Perinatal Coordinator leading the way, the project offers intensive one-to-one support, baby massage sessions, and access to group work programs that help strengthen the bond between parents and their children. This important work wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of everyone who plays the Scottish Children's Lottery. 🌟 Say hello to Brighter East End (BEE), a charity on a mission to create a safe and welcoming environment, offering practical support and opportunities to uplift the most vulnerable in and around Easterhouse. Their work is making a real difference, and we’re excited to share their latest project! Brighter East End recently received a £1,600 grant to launch their new Young Volunteer Photography Project, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to support them. This exciting project is all about empowering young people through creativity and community engagement. Part 1: Young Volunteers, aged 12-17, from BEE’s Young Volunteer Programme, along with other interested youth from the local area, will participate in photography workshops led by a professional photographer. They’ll dive into the world of photography, using their new skills to tackle a challenge for their Silver Youth Achievement Awards (Youth Scotland/SQA Accredited Awards). Part 2: These talented Young Volunteers will then pass on their knowledge by running photography sessions for children aged 5-11, whom they already mentor. Together, they’ll work towards Hi5 Awards and create a Community Event to showcase their work, celebrating the achievements of both groups. We can’t wait to see the creativity and community spirit that this project will inspire. 🚗 Our charity road trip continues, and this time we’re visiting the incredible team at Carers Trust Scotland 🌍💙 Carers Trust is dedicated to transforming the lives of unpaid carers across Scotland and the UK, offering vital support, services, and recognition to those who care for a family member or friend facing illness, disability, mental health challenges, or addiction—often without pay. Through a growing network of 22 local partner services, they’re making a difference in 22 of Scotland’s 32 local authority areas. With an estimated 800,000 unpaid carers in Scotland, including 29,000 young carers under 16, Carers Trust reaches 66,000 of these amazing individuals, helping them navigate the challenges of their roles. We’re proud to have contributed £3,000 to support The Scottish Young Carers Festival, specifically the Wellbeing Zone. This annual festival offers young carers a much-needed break from their responsibilities, a chance to connect with others, participate in consultations, and most importantly—have fun! 🎉 The Wellbeing Zone was packed with activities like confidence-building workshops, mindfulness sessions, yoga, massages, and more. These workshops equip young carers with tools to manage their wellbeing, long after the festival ends. Over the coming weeks, we'll be spotlighting some amazing organisations that recently received grant awards. 🌟 First up is the Cranhill Development Trust (CDT), a charity that’s making a huge impact by promoting resilience, tackling poverty, and addressing social exclusion. Their wide range of programs focus on Health and Wellbeing, Employability and Welfare, and Learning and Development, all designed to support their community. We’re proud to announce that CDT has received a £2,000 grant to enhance their before and after school activities for children and young people.
