Thank you Ayrshire College for hosting this morning's member networking and best practice event. Today was a slightly different format with an informative panel discussion about skills before we were treated to a tour of the college and its workshops. With a growing skills gap presenting an ongoing issue for our industry, it was really beneficial for attendees to hear more details about the current skills landscape and the possible solutions to resolve the problem. Thank you again to Angela Cox, Anne Campbell, Alistair Rodgers, Avril Thomson, Natalie Cairns and team for looking after us and sharing your knowledge and expertise.

Today is World Mental Health day and this year the theme is: “It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace”. Currently, one in four workers in the UK report that they are struggling to cope with work-related stress and pressure. Last year, one in five working adults took time off due to mental health concerns, with over half of all sick leave in the UK currently attributed to stress, depression, or anxiety. Employers can make a difference by fostering a supportive environment, offering mental health resources, and promoting work-life balance. Together, we can create healthier, more productive workplaces. Our very own Debbie Wilson has put together this insightful article that looks at what more organisations can do to make that difference. https://lnkd.in/edfzQ8Vh

Our latest blog is now live! Penned by Richard Hoyle CEng, Senior Consultant at member company Finch Consulting, this new addition to our knowledge bank takes an in-depth look at compliance and regulatory assurance, are they a necessary evil, or a way to add value to your business and balance sheet? Compliance and regulatory assurance are often misunderstood, with many organisations treating compliance as a box-ticking exercise. While compliance is legally necessary, assurance goes beyond that to ensure the ongoing safety of employees, equipment, and the workplace. This distinction is critical for duty holders and business owners who are responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, lean process management and cost saving asset management. An amazing and thought-provoking morning at the Scottish Engineering office today. We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone that came along to our first in-person breakfast briefing as we discussed Neurodiversity in the workplace. Attendees heard from Graeme Turner and Calum from Haven Products, and Jennifer MacDonald from Engineering Inclusion Ltd, all shared their personal experience as neurodivergent individuals and highlighted the importance of a supportive environment in helping to shape them into the successful individuals they are today. Our very own Lindsey Miller provided an insightful overview of the legal duties that employers need to consider when it comes to neurodivergent employees, ensuring that inclusion is not just an aspiration but a responsibility. We would like to take this time to thank them all for joining us today and for sharing their experience.
