We would like to say a huge thank you to David Aaron, Jen Henderson and the team at Heriot-Watt University for hosting Rebecca Rigg, Pauline Burns, Kevin Duffy and a number of our members for this morning's Member Networking and Best Practice Meeting. Split into groups, attendees toured the incredible facilities on-site including: GRID (Global Research Innovation & Discovery), Mechanical engineering facilities, Advanced physics teaching lab, and the Medical Device Manufacturing Centre. They were given an overview of the GA scheme and how the university has been collaborating with Industry; and heard all about the fascinating almost 200 year history of the University's School of Mechanics, which was initially set up to tackle the labour shortage in the Edinburgh region by training working class men.

Last week, our team were delighted to attend a member networking and best practice meeting at Collins Aerospace, winners of our 2024 President's Award. We'd like to take the time to say a huge thank you to Nolan Lancaster, Lauraine Anderson (Assoc. CIPD) and the rest of the Collins Aerospace team for hosting us on the day. Attendees were treated to a tour of the impressive facilities and got to learn about their fantastic apprenticeship programme, it was incredible to hear that over 60% of the current management team started their career as an apprentice!

Paul Sheerin's March article for The Herald Scotland is now live! Inspired by Louise Collins Scotland's Apprentice of the year win and our fantastic panel at our Apprenticeship Week Business Breakfast, this month we return to the importance of apprenticeships to our sector and the challenges they face that, to be honest, we hoped were a thing of the past. We were joined by three award winning individuals, who shared their journey of becoming an apprentice to where they are now in rapidly promoted positions. What shocked us was the collective experience of each, where their school actively discouraged the apprenticeship route, and whilst these people have been out of school for a number of years now, an audience member shared a story that reflected the same attitude just this month across schools in their area. https://lnkd.in/eyHC7Xuq

This morning we transformed our West George Street office into a courtroom as our HR and legal team hosted their mock employment tribunal. With staff putting on some 'Oscar worthy performances' (not our words), attendees were able to see for themselves how an employment tribunal would play out, from statements, to cross examination and the final verdict we gave a complete overview of how a day in tribunal would unfold... and ideally how to avoid experiencing the real life version. We were fortunate enough to also have Dangerous Studio join us and record the session for training purposes, this version of the tribunal training will be available to book soon! A huge thank you to all who came along, our staff that took part and the Dangerous Studio team, we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.
