💉 Did you expect this? Our recent research shows that only 6 out of 16 EU countries have sustainability mechanisms like long-term vaccine contracts and dedicated vaccine budgets in place! Take Czechia, for example. Their public health insurance system significantly funds the national immunisation program through regular contributions from employers, the self-employed, and state payments for specific groups. Did your country make the list? 🌐 Find out more in our full report, including country profiles like Czechia, here: 🔗https://lnkd.in/dPiw9S4X

What innovations are happening in global health right now? A new Devex report names monoclonal antibodies—mAbs—as a key innovation driving progress in global health. The report highlights how mAbs can be deployed during an outbreak, as well as CEPI's recent investment in Nipah mAb development (https://lnkd.in/ezk7vf6Y). If you want to know more about the role of mAbs alongside vaccines in ending pandemic threats, check out our illustrated blog: https://lnkd.in/ecYuh_vP Alongside using #AI to prepare for #DiseaseX, novel vaccine development, including the use of RNA, is also listed in the report as another health innovation. CEPI's CEO, Richard Hatchett, explains in the report how AI can accelerate vaccine innovation, highlighting CEPI's recent investment in Apriori Bio's AI platform, which could help to design variant-resilient vaccines against evolving viruses (https://lnkd.in/eS62arp2) Hatchett also discusses how diversifying vaccine manufacturing capabilities in the Global South will help to increase access and avoid some of the tragic inequities seen during COVID-19. During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the biggest challenges was the uncertainty around how well different measures – such as vaccination campaigns and lockdowns – would work. Policymakers had to make tough decisions without knowing exactly what the outcomes would be, which sometimes led to less-than-ideal results. To improve decision-making, some countries turned to mathematical models. ln Germany, Universität des Saarlandes, developed a “compartmental model” to predict how COVID-19 would spread and affect the population. As part of the EUVABECO project, this model is now being expanded to cover multiple infectious diseases. In collaboration with partners in Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, and Portugal, comprehensive implementation plans are being developed to guide countries in using these modelling tools. 🚀 Our first draft of the plans will be released in October 2024 – providing critical insights to help countries respond more effectively to future health crises. 🔗 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/dvRxR_Sf #EUVABECO #PublicHealth #DiseaseModelling #Forecasting #InfectiousDiseases #GlobalHealth
