Last year, the Planning and Environment Committee (PEC) pledged 47,000 new residential units by 2031 within London, but this has raised questions about where these new units will be built. Steve Lehman, Chair of the PEC, has said they'll hopefully be built along transit routes, especially considering the newly underway Wellington Gateway, and the PEC has approved several infill projects, on the basis that "Three to four storeys is not a radical departure in changing the character [of a neighbourhood],” What do you think? Are infill and refit projects the answer the the complexities around continuous new-builds and built-for-purpose properties? #construction #residential #builtenvironment

At COP26 back in 2021, The UK Green Building Council published their Net Zero Whole Life Carbon Roadmap for the Built Environment, which aimed to develop a deliverable pathway to net zero for buildings and infrastructure across the country. The Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) is calling for mandatory limits to embodied carbon to accelerate the decarbonisation of the built environment to hopefully help the sector meet the COP26 Roadmap, and IStructE has called for political parties to include these limits in their manifestos for this year's election. As a leader, do you think limits will be a good thing for the construction industry, and help the sector hit green targets, or will it become merely another box fill? #BuiltEnvironment #Construction #COP26 #Election

Sharing some humour this Monday to get you into the new week smiling! Ever since the end of the covid-19 pandemic, more and more companies have promoted a hybrid working system, but there has recently been a shift to more in-office time, which is resulting in more and more acronyms for the working systems; Work From Home, Return To Office, Work From Anywhere - the list goes on. What's the most baffling acronym you've heard? Big shoutout to @craniuminfinitum on TikTok for summing up the WFH/RTO debate so well! #WFH #RTO #HybridWorking https://lnkd.in/ekPyNFea

Calls are growing louder for UK political leaders to make commitments in their manifestos for embodied carbon regulation, led by 11 construction and built environment bodies, including the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and the Construction Industry Council (CIC). 1 in 10 of the UK's total greenhouse gas emissions are embodied carbon emissions, relating to the production and use of construction materials. With the promise of an election around the corner, these groups are hoping to put pressure on potential party leaders, with the hopes of the UK making progress to reducing carbon emissions by 2028. What do Leaders in Construction in the UK intend to do about this? #carbonemissions #globalwarming #electionyear

Arup, a London-based collective of engineering and sustainability consultants, designers, architects and experts, has released a heat map this month of the capital, using its heat-mapping tool, UHeat. The map, commissioned by the mayor of London, comes after 2023 was the hottest year ever recorded, and many expressed concerns about how London's built environment would cope with more of the same or potentially even higher temperatures. As environmental concerns around global warming grow worldwide, there is a growing feeling of responsibility for the construction industry to bring sustainability to the forefront of plans. As a leader, how would you manage making this as a priority? #sustainability #globalwarming #contruction #builtenvironment
