Four time winner of Best Department Store in the World

About us

Our business was founded by American entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge in 1909 and is widely regarded as the first and best example of a modern department store. In 2018, Selfridges was recognised as the Best Department Store in the World for an unprecedented fourth time, and will retain the honour until 2020. Selfridges has been a leading London retail destination and a UK landmark for over a century, challenging the rules of retail from day one. This award acknowledges that Selfridges has outstanding leadership in delivering extraordinary customer experiences, driven by exceptional business acumen, combined with consistently brave creativity and an unwavering commitment to sustainability. Selfridges has four stores; in London, Birmingham and Manchester (Trafford Centre, and Exchange Square) all celebrating exciting experiences and new product destination launches. Selfridges also operates an international website that delivers within the UK and to over 130 countries, trading in eight currencies. • MARKING NEURODIVERSITY CELEBRATION WEEK 🌟   With one in seven people in the UK identifying as neurodivergent, this #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek is an opportunity to reflect on how we can be an inclusive workplace, empower the next generation of diverse talent and nurture the communities that make our destinations thrive.   Sharlene John, our Head of DE&I, Recruitment and Onboarding, shares with Drapers the steps we’re taking at Selfridges to support our neurodivergent customers and team members.   We launched our weekly Quiet Hour in 2022, a dedicated time where we lower music and switch off screens to create a calmer, more subdued environment in our stores and offices. This year during #NeurodiversityCelebrationWeek, we’ve extended Quiet Hour to take place across all our stores every weekday from 10am to 11am, and we will continue this on a permanent basis in our Manchester and Birmingham stores.   Driven by our internal Thinking Differently community, we also hosted a Chat For Change event for our team members this week, where we uncovered the different layers of neurodiversity and discussed how to be a more inclusive leader with Tania Martin, neurodiversity consultant and founder of consultancy PegSquared.   Read more from Sharlene on Drapers here: https://lnkd.in/eEXV2S6x

  • RESELFRIDGES WINS RETAIL EXCELLENCE AWARD 🏆 We’re so proud to have won the Retail Excellence category at last night’s TheIndustry.fashion & TheIndustry.beauty People, Planet & Purpose Awards, recognising our commitment to sustainability through RESELFRIDGES.   The awards recognise the fashion brands, retailers, and designers placing people, planet, and purpose at the centre of their strategies.   #RESELFRIDGES sees us bringing circular shopping to the forefront for our customers, last year making rental, repair, resale, and refill services available in permanent destinations across all four of our stores.   These spaces help make shopping new, pre-loved, and circular coexist as a seamless experience for customers, underpinning our purpose of imagining and creating a more sustainable future.   Congratulations to all of #TeamSelfridges who bring RESELFRIDGES to life for our customers, and keep people, planet, and purpose at the heart of what they do! 💛
